Default Happened once, should I be worried?

When I was out with car the other day, for some unexplained reason when I went to accelerate from rest it appeared as if the automaic transmaission didn't want to shift up into the higher gears and I was limited to 40mph? I've just bean out and tried it on a longish drive and it sems fine now? Should I be worried?

This happened once to me when I first bought my Crossfire. It was me being an idiot.
I had a manual transmission Pontiac Fiero for 27 years before moving up to Crossfire.
On Fiero I always pulled shifter back and to the left in order to go from first to second gear.
Cable actuation made it a sloppy gear shift even when adjusted properly.
Old habits die hard so I did this once with Crossfire and must have pulled or tapped it enough to stay in first.
Would not shift up. Panic as engine revved as we went super slow in same gear.
Got brain together after a moment and tapped shift lever into higher gears.
Now when starting out I always check for the D for drive in instrument cluster before heading off.
I hope that this is what happened with yours.

Phew!!!!!! I hope you are right!

Just out of interest, I presume the gearbox is just a pure automatic and not a tiptronic type where it can be driven another way somehow?

They call it "Autostick Gear Selection".
In Canada tap left to go down a gear and tap right to go up a gear. (When transmission is in drive)
Check your owner's manual and the other manual I got with car - Quick Reference Guide - for full explanation.
Again, I hope that this is what happened. Only once with me. Felt like idiot.
Just make sure that you are in drive D when you take off and that it is not a number for gear on instrument panel.
Again, just a guess that you had accidently put it in gear 1 or 2.
I leave mine in drive and don't use the "manual" way of shifting.
Good luck.

Many thanks. Tbh I have never checked the instrument panel to see what gear I was in. I will take notice in future.I have just put it into 'winte'r mode as I live on a hill and second gear seems a more appropriate gear for setting away down hill with.

That is not the purpose of winter mode. If you leave it in winter mode it will always start off in second gear no matter how level or how much of an incline you are on. It was designed to enhance traction on slippery (snowy) roads by starting off in higher gear.
I have never used it as mine goes in the garage to avoid our winter snow here so maybe someone else who uses it can comment.

Iam confused, if I go to #1 and firewall it, the srt-6 upshifts as needed to stay below redline. Upshifts are automatic at WOT when you are going to redline. Enjoy Woody
