I think if you were trying to add confusion to those categories you have succeeded.

In my opinion, the new Marketplace information is presented well.

Redundant, not working very well. Besides the fact it isn't working, if your intent is to make only one category (blending the remaining three into one) then maybe it'll work after the bugs are gone. As it sits, members are already posting FS/WTB stuff (just about everything crossfire) throughout the forum. JMHO!

please elaborate. what is not working? as for it being redundant, it's not as the old forum will be closed to new posts, it already is closed to new threads being created.

New listings are not possible in the old one, and after 90 days we will close it entirely to new replies too.

Hi Robb, thank you for asking my input. I saw at least one post where it was not working and with my looking into it, it also was confusing to me. EDIT: This part ( not letting me show the forum category as 'read' ) solved by me. About the redundancy, I did not know the other category forums were locked for NEW listings, again my misread, BUT there are members listing things all over the site within other posts (I have found them as recent as earlier this week). Although I try to follow many individual forum categories, I do not review every one. In the past I have seen other forums send out a notice to all members that 'this or that' was changing in the way certain things were done. I know there is RTC (resistance to change) but sometimes the frustrations are easier when they are anticipated by a (any) form of notice, rather than just dropped into the site and left to be found out by trial and error. I hope this reply is taken as an intent to improve, and not as a criticism?

I also have no use for FB, have an account only after being browbeat by both sides of my and Mrs families (which I only 'visit' about once in every few weeks to a couple months. Am also of the mindset if it (FB) goes away it will NOT be MISSED at all.

EDIT: If I may, the page/sale of the instrument cluster (first one I opened) doesn't fit my screen right. I have to use the scroll and slide the page to the left (mouse icon on bottom 'bar' sliding the bar to the right which moves the page to the left) to see the entire post. Later I found all the pages in the category (including the test pages) need to me moved (not 'auto-sizing' like the rest of the site). Also, the page isn't loading the icons when going up the chain, it shows a red circle with line for all the icons. If you need it, I can take a picture and post it. Thanks!

I had to resize it also; too much wasted space on the left side of the screen. I personally prefer the original set up. This seems too messy and something else one needs to learn to navigate the page.

We did post a sidewide announcement about the changes along with this thread, we are trying to ensure the message gets out. By all means if you have other suggestions please share.

Can you share a screenshot of what you're describing in the final paragraph, I'm a bit unclear what you are referring to. Thank you for taking the time to check the marketplace out and provide feedback!

cheers,
robb

Thanks for the reply Robb, I'll take a picture and post it here below.

Please excuse the blurred pictures, I dropped my camera last week and the replacement isn't due until next week (the autofocus is broke, after dropping it I put the batteries back in and when turning it on it made a funny 'clunk' while cycling the lens. I think it 'jumped' or 'slipped' a cog or lever in its mechanism

This happens when I select one of the categories IN 'Marketplace', then 'up' the tree to go to the next (or another of the 5) categories.

Going to be honest, but not intending to be hurtful. New classifieds setup is far too cumbersome and clumsy. The new post form can include everything it is asking for, but limit the mandatory info to post an ad way down. Categories get very messy when you have multiple unrelated parts to list, even with the part out option. Honestly, these are Crossfires, not Mustangs. There's not a ton of classifieds posts, any way. Feels like a solution in search of a problem. Before you start shooting, understand that I manage software engineering teams for a living. User experience is key to success.

I'm still not clear on what you're describing. Neither of those screenshots are from within the new marketplace section?

Thank you for your feedback. Can you elaborate a bit on what you would change if you could wave a magic wand? I'm not sure what you mean by categories get messy for example.

cheers,
robb

First, do not require so many drop downs to be filled, ie model, year from/to, etc. On a car only made in two/three basic flavors for only 5 years, just unnecessary stuff to fill out. On location, may not need quite as much there, but it wouldn't feel like having to fill out so much if some of the other items were not required.

Breaking the categories down to interior, trim, suspension, engines, etc sounds intuitive, but again, with so few cars involved, and the likelihood that a seller will have parts spanning several of those categories, it just becomes cumbersome, especially if the seller has to fill out the form for each part. I do agree having the form ensures some basic info will be in every post, such as price, location, etc, so that part is actually an improvement.

Hi Robb, I guess a picture isn't worth a thousand words? I click on any post in the marketplace, and then go up the 'tree' to another branch, and all the icons are missing (like in the pictures). Can't explain it any better than that so I guess if others aren't having this missing icon issue, it must be on my end. Thanks for trying.

Under the Browse By Categories section - yeah, all those links are bad. Honestly, I know you are trying to improve the forum, but the best solution may be to just go back to what you had. It seemed to work just fine.

I think the reason the 'links are bad' is that we don't have enough listings, perhaps none at all in the category being searched.

I've taken some of the feedback that you all have shared with me and we will be making some changes, most importantly around defaulting to, or only displaying Crossfire in the model section. This is great feedback, please keep the ideas coming and we'll continue to adjust for you.

cheers,
robb
