2011 Sonoma County Autocross
Hey all,
Usually this would go in the racing forum, but since it's specifically for the nor cal folks, I'm putting it here. If a mod needs to move it, then I apologize, and thank you.
ESCA 2011 autocross season begins April 16th. The events are held on the backside of the Sonoma County Airport. The dates are:
April 16th
May 14th
June 18th
July 16th
Aug 27th
Sept 17th & 18th Shoot out with the Porsche club
Oct 15th, last event of the season
It's a members only club. Membership is $28 for the year and events are $30
Membership is small so we usually get 8 to 10 runs in.
Gate opens at 8:00am. Registration is 8:00am to 9:30am. Racing begins at 10:00 and we're driving home by 5:00.
Visit the website for more info. The website is being redesigned so email me
srt6 at earthlink dot net if you don't see what you're looking for.
Check out a newsletter because it'll have some additional autocross specific info.
If you want to try and make round 1 on April 16th, move on it quick. You MUST have a membership card to get in. I've asked the powers that be if a membership application can be emailed. Otherwise snail mail is the only option.
I'll have my srt6 out there and my son will have his (new to him) 04 na. It would be Wicked Cool to have a bunch of XF's show up this season.

Hey Steve, You think I'd be O.K. with my STOCK brakes and O.E.M. Conti.'s w/13k on them? It sounds like good fun. What is the approximate Max. speed one gets to on the typical autocross course? Maybe this is a good way to polish off the stock tires so I can justify to Dina getting some new rubber. Bob
Hey Bob, I was kinda hoping you'd cosnider this
Courses are typically designed so that the fastest sections don't exceed freeway speeds. I think I might have hit 70mph once in the last 4 years. So as long as your brakes are in decent condition they'll be fine. And regarding the Conti's, most experienced autocrossers recommend new drivers run a season or two on street tires before they switch to better rubber. Good race tires can mask bad habits. You'll scrub your conti's a bit but, unfortunately, probably not enough to justify new tires
u n l e s s you come run with us a bunch, then I think you could make your case
ESCA Link to the website, go to "Membership" for the application, snail mail it along with a check for $28, then patiently wait for the membership card to arrive. I asked about emailing the application and they said "no" because they need a "check" for payment. They're not set up for other forms of payment.
The May newsletter is up on the website, lots of autocross specific details there.
Esca also runs with the Redwood Region of Porsche Club of America, so sometimes we'll run with them at their events. It's a way to get more seat time.
Would be great to meet you Bob, let me know if you have other questions or if there's anything I can do to help get you here

Hey Bob,
Sure was great to meet you and I had a blast racing with you. Mighty fast car you have there
Hope you made it home without getting wet.

Back at you Steve. Great to finally meet you also, and thanks again for getting me started in the ESCA. I had a BLAST finally learning what our cars can really do (legally) on the closed course. What a great Course and location it is. It isn't the parking lot Autocross that's for sure, and worth the 2+ hr. drive for me. Thanks for driving w/ me the first few laps and introducing me to a great group of guys; and sharing/showing me some of your mad skills! I couldn't believe how strong both our cars felt as the day went by. I'm re-thinking even needing a pulley I have so much power and torque. Need Summer tires though! Congrat.'s on top time in our class! The rain held off for me until about an hour after pulling into my garage.
Bob
