Tire Bubbles
Re: Tire Bubbles
15k miles and both my back tires have developed bubbles, plus I seem to be a magnet for nails. 4 flats in one year? Seriously? What is up with these tires???
I just noticed these bubbles (one on each back tire.) How long can I drive these before they have to be replaced? I have to go out of town this weekend. :-(

Re: Tire Bubbles
When I purchased my XF it came equipped with Pirellis and the passenger front tire had a bubble which I drove around with for several months with no problem. A coworker a mine just told me a couple of days ago that his girlfriend had a bubble on one of her tires and he told he told her not to worry and mentioned my situation and guess what....that's right, she had a blow out. Luckily, she was not driving on the highway nor going fast so the moral of the story is don't drive around for too long with a bubble on the tire because you never know. I ended up purchasing some General Exclaims and have been very happy ever since.
Good luck and hopefully you can resolve your problem.

Re: Tire Bubbles
Bubbles (& I'm assuming they're in the sidewall) are nearly always caused by one or two things: either incomplete bonding of the layers during manufacture or by hitting lotsa potholes. Usually defects in manufacturing show up fairly quickly, under a year or so.
So, no, it's not normal.
And, yes, they're dangerous simply because they have a tendency to blowout.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the Goodyear F1 A/S though they have a tendency to get noisy when they wear.

I ended up going to Discount Tire before my trip to San Antonio. I almost fainted when I found out how much 19" tires cost. But the manager told me he had a guy come in with a brand new Mercedes Roadster and swap out the new 19" Bridgestone tires for some other ones. They still had the sticker and nubbies, but were technically "used" tires. They were 275/35, and they fit!!! $75 bucks each. I couldn't help myself, I bought them. I simply didn't have $600 to drop on a new pair of tires before my trip. I hope I made a wise decision. They sure do stick, WOW!

I had the same problem on my first '04. Two out of four of the Conti's went bad. Switched to Bridgestone Potenza's. No problems. Where I turned the 04' back in to the dealer they got the Conti's back. It was a lease.
My next two Xfire's have both been switched to Bridgestones. I kept the Conti's in case I need a spare.
