Squeaky Wheels - Driving me crazy!
Squeaky Wheels - Driving me crazy!
I picked up my roadster about a month ago and one thing that is driving me up the wall is the squeaky wheels. The vehicle had about 19k miles on it when I bought it. I assume the dealership replaced the brake pads. I was hoping after driving it about 500 miles, the squeakiness would go away. However, it hasn't.
The squeakiness sound is constant with or without applying the brakes (but the sound can change when I do hit the brakes). As far as I can tell, there is no friction hampering acceleration as the gas mileage is consistent with my old coupe. Can I assume that this noise could still be the brakes? If so, I assume I could go to any auto parts store and get a "de-squeaking" solution. I really would like to avoid taking it back to the dealership for this. However, it if is something more serious (such as wheel bearings) it would obviously need to be taken in. It appears that the sound is coming from the rear wheels.
TIA for any advise.

- I pulled on the emergency brake moderately the first time as I was moving and heard a "clank".
- The overall noise seemed to be reduced, but still hear a little bit of squeakiness (much more bearable though)
- When I pull hard on the emergency brake, I hear a very loud squeal.

itsky, Have you seen this thread ? I hope that's it, pretty easy fix, turn rotors, apply anti squeal lube. Good Luck, let us know what you find and what the cure was.

I occasionally will pull my emergency brake while rolling forward at a slow speed just to be sure it is grabbing evenly on both rear wheels.
It is and there has never been any clanking or squealing at all.
And it does stop the car very quickly and evenly.

Update on this...
The stealership did a half-a**ed job on the car. The brakes were safe, but they didn't properly lube or turn the rotars after replacing the pads. I got it all fixed today and only hear the welcoming sound of the motor and my music as I go down the road.
