Check out the threads on replacing the steering stabilizer - I think some people there report changing their stabilizer ended the clunking.
Here's one thread - there may be more...

Just replace stabilizer and the klunking stopped. Steering is stiffer but I would like it a little more stiffer. any suggestions what else might need replacing?
I just returned from dropping my car off at dealer. Same problem in addition to a loud clunking noise coming from right rear tire area. Sounded like something was "loose" and rolling around in the trunk!
Hope I've done the right thing; but with no mechanic ability, nor anyone I know who can assist, dealer is my only option.
Pray for me!

Make sure you get the bearings checked before it's too late. It's costing me $1,228 because the Warranty people said it was caused by the bearing failure which is wear and tear, which they don't pay for. "So make sure you check the bearings!"
