Default Price gouging

I had to replace my front brake linings and callec local Chrysler dealer for parts. (05 Roadster)

Pads were quoted at $183 for standard front pads. Rotors at $210 each.

I went to Advanced Auto and Autozone...same front pads...$46 Lifetime warranted...$63. (I didn't need rotors..of course the dealer said they had to be changed...no grooves and changed as soon as light came on ((55K miles)) Anyone wonder how Chrysler can claim bankrupcy while selling parts at 3-4 times the price of Autozone?

Red face Re: Price gouging

That is how it always is, if you knew the markup a on a lot of items you may think twice about the purchase. $5.00 for a cup of coffee, not me. 16.00$ 2 cokes and a bag of popcorn. 4.00 gal of gas on and on. It pays to shop around as you did! But some times we have to pay because they have us by the !!!!"s

Back in the early '90s I got the front brakes completely redone on the front of my BMW for less than half what my then girlfriend paid a dealer for the same work on her Honda Civic.

NR,

You are partly right that they are the same in terms of the concept that they are the both the same applications for our cars, however the Mopar pads and Rotors likely are not made by Chrysler. Also you can get different quality of pads and rotors from different vendors. It all comes down to quality.

Now that being said the quality of the OEM's is not all that great I will admit after just changing my pads to Rotex Golds but all dealers charge an arm and a leg for their parts. Why? Probably to pay those crazy executives out there! LOL!

In the end there is value in dealer stuff because it is designed for the car specifically, but like you say there are alternatives and when we find em we like it!

Some oem is good like body parts etc but things that they have 3rd party vendors and suppliers make for them are often better purchased aftermarket i.e. shocks and suspension.

All dealers take us for all we got!

Think that's bad Chrysler want's twice that for the SRT 6 front pads $397.00. I guess they're trying to make up the the money they lost on the sales for the Crossfire by screwing all us poor saps that now own them.
