Default Stops Like Hell Packages

i added some brake packages for the SRT6 onto our website last night, the stage 2 and 3 are "all out" road racing kits but the stage 1 kit is a very nice all around kit and will be going onto our car. let me know if i should add in another kit with the porterfield road racing pads instead for road racers or if you guys would prefer to see a kit with just rotors/pads.
we can get anything from centric WELCOME TO CENTRIC PARTS - Centric Parts / stoptech / hawk / brembo / powerslot / disc brakes australia / goodridge / motul

if anyone has some ideas for different combo kits im listening.

i will also be putting together kits for the n/a's so fire away with the combo's you are interested in.

Well, if you're taking request, let me be the first.

Porsche Boxster front and rear calipers (Brembo 4 piston radially mounted front and rear) for the n/a Crossfire. You make the mounts, and I'll get the calipers.

That's all I need, thank you very much.

I need something that won't fade in the n/a after repeated bouts of going round and round at the 2.5 mile long roadcourse. Brakes get one heck of a work out, and the stock pads that came on the car faded bad after 5 laps. Switched to EBC Redstuff, and the next track day was much better, but the car just doesn't have the stopping power of the Boxster, and it should, in my opinion.

BC.

BC, I have upgraded to SS lines, dot 4 fluid, slottted/drilled rotors and TK pads on my NA and I can run the Dragon for hours with little to no brake fade. Our ~3000 lb car does not need 4 piston calipers front and rear.

I got a great price and service from Needswings. I have the Stoptech BBK on the front and Carbotech RX-8 pads all around and I love them. While I was at it I got the Power Slot rotors for the rear to match the look of the front rotors. I can't imagine needing anything more, except if your into a certain look.

I hate to say this, but the Dragon is NOT a racetrack.
Until you put the x-fire onto an actual high speed, high cornering, heavy braking road course, like we have, you won't know what the limits of the brake system are, and how they can be improved.

Remember a couple of months ago when that kid posted video of his car racing on public roads, and his brakes faded, and he crashed into a barrier on the road, after crossing the double yellow line?

He claimed it was brake fade, and I can believe that.

I have made the brakes fade on a crossfire with only 3k miles on it.
Didn't take much at the track.

The Boxster at the same pace, no fade, for the entire day.

I would rather over kill the brakes for a purpose like what I like to do with the cars, than for just to say I have 4 piston brakes at each and every corner of the car.

BC.

Stock brakes have no place on a road course, you'll chew through the pads during an average track day weekend. Its not safe what-so-ever.

I went through the upgrade cycle. First time at the small go kart track all stock. I didn't have a problem at first. The second time out I boiled the fluid. I got the hint and put in ATE Blue and got some Porterfield R4S pads on all corners. Then I got the ***** to go to the high speed track. Unfortunately, or fortunately, they put in a chicaine to slow the cars down, and I had no problems braking from 100 to 45. Then they took out the chicaine and the braking zone went from 125 or 130 to 45 and the Porterfields over heated and disappeared in 10 minutes. So I decided to go all the way and got the BBK and Carbotech's. In hind sight, with the proper pads and cooling ducts the BBK wasn't necessary but after loosing my brakes trying to stop from 125 I decided not to wait for another potential near death experience. It all depends on the abuse. I can't see anyone having a problem at the dragon because the speeds are no that great. But I've never driven the dragon. You just need to be honest with yourself about how you use your car. And if you have the funds, a BBK looks killer.

Hey Rob
Waiting patiently for something for the NA....Stage 1 to begin with and wouldn't mind having a dual piston caliper option for the front. It would all have to fit with the stock wheels. Let me know if you need a car for trial fitting. tell Liz I said hi

well, bladecutter, we don't usually run the dragon, we run the hellbender...it isn't a clean well thought out road course...it is a dirty off camber mountain road like you have out your way....I have seen 130-135 approaching S curves and hair pins....we give the brakes a work out...I recommended Johnny upgrading his brakes so, he wouldn't face plant on the mountain....so he knows what he is talking about....we run a stretch that is about 10 miles long, and then run her back again....besides, being an old flat tracker, braking isn't fast....lol

Oledoc2u,

I know there are some beautiful roads down in the corner of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia from first hand experience, while piloting a motorcycle. There are definitely roads here in Colorado that can put those roads to shame, as well.

(Disclaimer - safety **** content)

We both know, that while driving like that on public roads can be extremely enjoyable, it is incredibly fool hardy, and has the potential of putting people's lives in danger.

I may drive spirited on the road, and there's plenty who will say that I do just that, but not once have I ever gotten a car's brake system hot enough for fade to become apparent on a street drive. Anyone driving that hard on the street REALLY needs to get off, and take it to a nice, safe, road course. PLEASE.

Now, when on the road course, I give the car's I drive a good once over, first in 100% stock form, so that I know what the baseline is, and then as I upgrade bits and pieces to get the car to where I want it to be.

I hate to keep comparing the Boxster to the Crossfire, but it would be even less fair of me to compare the Crossfire to the brake systems on my motorcycles.

Anyway, a multi-piston caliper setup, like on the Boxster, allows the driver to put less pedal effort into slowing a vehicle down from one speed to another, in a given distance.

Since there is more fluid in the 4 piston caliper of the Boxster, it takes more heat in order to boil all that fluid.

Since there are 4 pistons pressing the pads against the rotors, less time is spent on the brakes scrubbing off the needed amount of speed, and the deeper you can go into the corner with that original speed.

And as you (sort of) said, the less time you are on the brakes, the faster you are.
Better brakes don't actually allow you to go faster, but they allow you to spend less time going slower.

Our two cars share the same width tires, front and rear, so the tire's contact patches are the same. The front brake rotors on both cars are the same size, but I believe the Boxster's are slightly thicker, which allows them to store and dissipate more heat energy. The weights of the two cars are similar, with the Boxster having an advantage in that department, but with a wild difference in the location of the weight, since the engine is in front of the rear wheels, behind the seats.

The Crossfire is a fantastic machine, and has sufficient brakes for its intended purpose.
But once the environment that the brakes get used in is changed, they do need improvement, for safety's sake. I know there is much, much better to be had, and it shouldn't take much to get them to the happy land, without having to resort to 8 piston overkill packages, like I have seen offered by another supplier.

There's a fine balance to braking systems, and I like to float right on the edge of it, without falling too far into over kill or under kill land.

Hope I haven't driven everyone nuts with my brake ramblings.
I'm just really serious about serious brakes.

BC.

BC, Have you ever driven the Dragon?? I only ask because Even (itsky) drives usually 2x a year all the way from CO to the Dragon. I am sure CO has some unbelieveable roads, but putting the Dragon/Hellbender to shame? I think not (it is listed on every list of the worlds best roads to drive I have seen, never seen CO mentioned). And as Doc said, we do hit it pretty hard out there, and as far as safety goes, the Dragon is about the only 'public' road I would even think about doing this.

If you are serious about your brakes why not build them up appropriately, and make the most bang for your buck? Your Dot3 fluid now boils at 300-350, my dot4 is above 600 (see velociabstract below) this addition, coupled with SS lines, makes the pedal have a fantastic feel, not spongy at all. I could care less what you would like to spend or do to your car, I am just saying I know a lot of people who abuse these cars on race tracks that have the same setup I have, I did my research and talked to the right people...

Happy motoring.

Bladecutter, I with you on anyone wanting to upgrade to more pistons, and more fluid capacity especially if you are going out and racing a lot. The added pistons put even more pressure on the disc, quickly, which is what you want when stab braking setting up for a turn. The hellbender in the morning is vacant, traffic is all but non existant...you do a run thru, check out the terrain, then hit it going back...it's long laid out so you can just about see the whole course, unlike a mountain road, it runs thru a valley alone a river....I don't condone street racing per se, this is one on one, me against the road which I have a clear view of, and gps telling me what's up ahead...I know you have some beautiful roads out there, that would be more taxing on the brake system for sure...but, any improvement to the brakes is a good one, and the fluid change, the metal lines, and upgraded ceramic pads are a must do on these cars to really enjoy them...myself...if cash wasn't a problem, a brembo big brake kit would be nice, or any equivalent....

My stage 1 brake kit is 4 piston Wilwood Integra-GT calipers and wilwood gt 13"x1.38" fully floating rotors. My only concern is where the limit of the stock master cylinder is

good point, no use having a 6 piston set up and not enough fluid or pressure to make use of it....

Blade cutter,
I completely agree with you on almost all aspects except for your thoughts on how the Dragon/Surrounding areas should be driven. It's ***** to the wall and if you're not driving that way, You will get ran over. This part of the country is like nothing I have ever seen before. You get there, and haul *** on all of these fantastic sweepers and when you do run up on someone they get the hell out of the way. It's just the way things work up there, everyone knows what they're subjecting themselves to and everyone is up there for basically the same reason. (unless you're one of the Crazies marching the Appalachian trail) Join us this fall and you'll have the time of your life.

BTW I don't think anyone who's driven the Dragon has boiled their brakes unless they didn't know how to use their transmissions properly. Kim and I certainly didn't and we were hauling *** up and then down, followed immediatly by a brisk run through Hell Bender... Didn't slow down until we caught the slow driving Rotory drivers. By that time we were just a mile away and it gave me time to let off, catch my breath, and let the car begin its cool down.

I know wilwood makes oem replacement masters in different sizes, just depends on what will bolt up. a friend of mine makes adapter plates to run the smaller master cylinders with factory boosters and such.

And it has nothing to do with the number of pistons, but the piston volume of the caliper. A 6 piston with small pistons would require near the same volume as a 4 piston with large pistons.

My calipers are staggered piston, 1.75 and 1.50. and are considerably larger than your typical bbk replacements. I think I might be okay with the stock master with what im going to run on the front, but if i do a rear kit as well I think it'll be time to look for a new master

LOL go put her on a scale. She is bloated with all that leather, suede, power + heated seats, etc. I have none of that and I am right at 3K
