Default AMG Wheel Lug Bolt Length?

Hello,

I know there are numerous threads on this topic - I have read most of them, and I am still a little confused and really need some help.

I purchased new wheels - Mercedes AMG 18 x 8.5 all round with a 35ET. I know I will need hubcentric spacers on the rear (66.6mm bore I believe, as 66.5 is too small), I'm thinking of using 15mm spacers, I know this will require extended lug bolts too.

My confusion is with regards to the length of the extended lug bolts. Is it just a case of purchasing a set of lug bolts that are 15mm longer to compensate for the 15mm spacer?

I have read that many people have suffered e/brake issues by using bolts that are too long. I realize a lot of people opt for the Mercedes/AMG wheels on their cars and would have had this same issue, and probably know the right length of lug bolt to go for.

Availability for the extended lug bolts is relatively scarce where I am other than for Ebay, I want to get the wheels on over the weekend and will have to order the spacers & bolts prior to this.

Any help or advise is most appreciated,

Regards

AR

ezaccesories.com has a wide assortment of bolts i'm not sure on the amg wheels but with a 15 mm spacer the srt wheels require a 55mm bolt a 10mm spacer requires a 50mm bolt ,,,i'm running a 8mm on the front and a 12mm on the rear and use 50mm bolt on both with no issues ...... good luck

Thanks hcarter,

Do you know if those are thread lengths or overall length?

ezaccesories.com would probably take a week or so to get those out to me. I'm gonna have to find somewhere local.

I've been doing more reading and it seems the AMG wheels will use the radius seated lug bolts that we have on our cars, where as most aftermarket wheels use the cone seated bolts.

This is way too complicated - I just wanted new wheels and didn't think about the consequences

Sorry hcarter, forgot to mention, I'm in the UK. I found these on ebay:

MERCEDES W203 15mm 66.6 ALLOY WHEEL SPACERS + BOLTS on eBay (end time 03-Sep-10 17:21:47 BST)

called the guy up and we got into a discussion about thread lengths his are 40mm threads and he believes they will fit no probs, however in the picture its clear the lug bolts have a tapered seat!

I was just aout to purchase the 55mm bolts from ebay as per your previous post and now this guy confuses me even more!

if our bolts are a 40mm thread as standard then I need a 55mm thread with a 15mm spacer - right?

Now that is interesting becuase the longest bolts I have found are 50mm but they have thread running the whole length of the shaft:

LONG wheel bolts 14x1.5 radius 50mm vw audi mercedes on eBay (end time 26-Aug-10 19:26:48 BST)

I think I'm going to have a breakdown!

I may well have to order the bolts from the US after all. Or I could possibly just not use the spacers and mount the 35ET's directly to the rear hub?

These bolts are made specifically for use with spacers , I have seen them all the way up to 60mm
those bolts on the ebay site are tapered seat and should be ball seat I have not seen a tappered MB wheel all I have come in contact with have been ball....type

Is the length of the shaft on the original lug bolt 30mm or 40mm? I just called 2 places and got different info.

I really appreciate all help on this - it's totally fried my brain!

Unfortunately there is little availability on the parts required here in the UK and even less knowledge on our cars.

Talking Re: AMG Wheel Lug Bolt Length?

I have a LOT of wheels and sizes and for me, the correct length on the rear is that the threaded end of the bolt protrude not more than 0.75" beyond the wheels inner surface or the wheel and spacer combo. THe front has more clearance and thus the front bolts can extend a bit longer as there are no brake springs to run afowl of, Hitting them. Woody

Our wheels are ball seats versus the cone seats like I use on a mustang wheel.

Thanks hcarter and Waldig,

I'm gonna get home, pop off one if my existing bolts and check the protrusion on the new wheel. So from my understanding of what you say Waldig; the rear hub can accomodate 19-20mm of thread from the lug without causing any problems?

If so then I need a lug that has 35mm protrusion through my new wheels to be able to accomodate a 15mm spacer and not damage my e/brake.

I feel less confused, but that doesn't mean I am!

Factory lug bolts are 40mm long, measured from the base of the ball seat to the end of the bolt... mine actually measure 39mm.

I have 50mm on the front with 10mm spacers and 53mm on the back with 12mm spacers. (I had to turn them down on the lathe from 55mm to 53mm due to clicking the e-brake)

I settled for 10mm spacers with 50mm bolts, I found someone in the UK selling them as a set. The offset will be out by 3mm each side, I don't think that will be too much of a problem.
