Default Awful tires or terrible roads?

The XF is the first car I have owned with low profile tires so this world is rather new to me.
I bought my car used with 10000 miles on it and the tires were shot it had Cooper Xeons on it and that was the last tire i wanted to put on it again but when i went to my uncles shop Xeons where the only thing he had available immediately and with the discount I get I would have been stupid not too. So I ran the tires for 6000 miles and went to rotate them across and discovered massive bald spots forming around the tire not like its out of alinement but as if a pot hole or uneven road had damaged them. I grew up around the tire business and have never saw a tire do this but then again low profile tires where a ways off in the future when i was working in the shop. Do any of you have this occurring with your rubbers or might it just be the Xeons?

I'm confused
If the car had only 10,000 miles on it I would expect that it would have still had OEM tires on it to.
These cars were only sold new with either Continental or Michelin tires ??

Ask your Uncle what's wrong. Pot holes, uneven roads, bald spots? doesn't make sense to me.

I just took the OEM Conti all season tires off my SRT-6 this week with 17,600 miles on the odometer. The fronts still had maybe another 10,000 miles left in them. The rears were almost down to the wear bars. All four tires were however showing very consistent and normal wear patterns. Even the rears were very evenly worn from the inside to the outside edges. I consider that normal wear for low profile tires.

The car I got rid of when I bought the Crossfire was a Honda S2000. I went through the OEM Bridgestone RE050's and replaced them with Dunlop Z1 Direzza Star Specs. The Honda had a low profile staggered setup as well. Both set of tires exhibited normal, even wear patterns.

So, I'd say your wear is not normal. Cooper is not known as the best tire in the world. There's a reason why they sell for low prices. There are much better choices. Also, have your front and rear end aligned at the same time you put new tires on.

Well when i bought it i didn't know as much as about the car as i do now but it had coopers on it but when I was in kentucky test driving it the roads were absolutely awful. I guess my question was more aimed at are cooper xeons junk and if so what tire do you run and do you see this happing on your tires. Ill take a picture of the tires on it now they have less then 12000 miles on them and the back tires look great but the fronts have the same bald spots forming I was told by my uncle this happens when the belts break in the tire so ultimately Im looking for a better tire that is less likely to have this happen. He isn't into cars and only has trucks so he couldn't point in direction. The car is getting aligned while its in the shop.

With 10K on it, and worn out cooper tires, I would say someone sold the originals, or your mileage isn't correct. I have coopers on my tahoe, because they are cheap, cheaply made, cheaply cost wise. If you are around the tire business, you would know this already. Frugal yes, best performance, no. Cheap tires wear funny, always have, and always will. Air pressure, alignment, driving habits, road conditions, all play a roll in how they wear, and you should know that. Spend the bucks and buy some performance rated tires, and expect them to wear out in 15-20K, sooner if you really like performance. Go A/S is you want better mileage out of them. But don't expect a cheap tire to give you the mileage of a name brand tire.
I would kick your uncle's behind.....of course he is saving you $$$$$$$$$$

Well lol Say they word Nitto, Pirelli, or any other top dollar tire in his shop or my four other uncles shops and you could hear a pin drop... My grandpa sold cooper tires and they all followed suit. I love the grip of the coopers tho and the ride is so quiet at first I even ran them through the winter and they did amazing for summer tires i never got stuck and it got hairy out a few times. I think the problem is the weight of the car and the cheap quality of the coopers. I don't know what to get next but i do know the next good rain we get will make a handful out of the XF. Every one has been praising the Hanook evos anyone know about how many miles you can put on them? I know driving style will play a big role so if your not pulling hole-shots and having rubber roasts please talk to me haha.

Take a look at the Continental ExtrameContact DW. That's a great tire for the money. I wouldn't trust Coopers, to be honest.

Grandpa sold Coopers because he made a better profit. They are fine for an everyday car or SUV. But, don't expect them to perform on a sports car, is all I am saying. I own a set, but I don't race the Tahoe....Summer tires are going to wear out, and wear out fast if you drive the car hard. A/S will give you better mileage and less performance. Can't have it both ways. Good luck...with whatever you decide...
