Just curious if anyone else had this problem or know how to fix....

I had my Crossfire in storage for the winter months (about 4 months). When i brought it out the brakes are not working and the BAS EPS light is on. What could have happened while it was just sitting there for 4 months?

Have you checked the fuse? might have gotten some condensation/corrosion over the winter?

So, the brakes are controlled by fuse?? WOW! Cuz, yeah the petal goes all the way to the floor with no stopping the car.

 

That really doesn't sound right!!!
By brakes not working, I underestimated what you meant.
The light could be from the fuse, but I think you have something more involved going on.
I'm nowhere near knowledgeable enough to help with this one now, but some here certainly will be.

Yeah, I just dont know what could have happened with it just sitting there. They worked fine when i put it away for the winter. And you would think 4 months wouldn't hurt it. It wasnt even a harsh winter with below 0 weather for anything to freeze up or anything.....

I have the exact same problem, just took the crossfire out of storage (went in Nov. 1) yesterday and took her for a test drive and noticed the soft brake pedal. Brakes work but definetly softer pedal than when I put it away. If you pump them they get firmer & noticed the BAS EPS light came on a couple of times but not on constantly. It's almost like air in the lines but just being in storage and no brake work done before it went in storage.

I had it on a trickle charger and on wheel skates in a garage with a car cover and same mild winter?

Would a seal like master cylider have dried out or something not being used for some months?

 

Anyone tried bleeding the brakes?

 

Good thought but I just wonder how would air get in the brake lines if the brake system has not been touched, unless there is a seal that was comprimised but would you not have fluid leakoing somewhere if that was the case?

Or are you suggesting the fluid is bad or someting? First thing I did was check the resivoir and the fluid level is good and fluid is clear nice golden colour. No fluid leak anywhere I can see & all seals see look good?

 

Ive been told it has something to do with the computer programming needing to be reset...???

I really miss driving my car. So I've decided to have the dealer look at it tomorrow. So we will see what they say.

 

Looking forward to what your mechanic says. I can still drive mine it's just a soft pedal for the first 1/2 of pedal travel so it's not quite as bad as your "no Brakes".

I hope it's as simple as just a reset and not a master cylinder or brake booster issue. I've never disconnected or had a dead battery as I used a trickle charger during storage. Did you use a trickle charger or take the battery out during your storage?

Ok...well the dealer says all things point to it being a bad master cylinder. Guess Im going try that and see what happens!!

I did not have it on a charger during the winter, nor did I disconnect the battery but I did let it run/move it a little once a month.

And I do have some braking power if I pump them 2 or 3 times. So the car is SOMEWHAT driveable, certainly not going to stop on a dime tho.....or even a dollar for that matter!

Anyone have any thoughts on the dealer's opinion??

Symptoms:

Very soft brakes
Builds braking power if pumped 2-3 times
Brake petal holds pressure but petal is very near the floor at the point that the car is completely stopped (can't tell if it is slowly falling more)
When pumping the brakes quikly the BAS EPS light comes on but goes off, will not stay on cosistently

 

Opps, forgot....

Symptoms continued:

Brake fluid is full and good color
no leaks anywhere that i can see
Brakes do squeak a little

 

Are they going to try and bleed the master cylinder or just going to replace the master cylinder?

 

Not sure if bleeding it is part of the process but they quoted me for the master cylinder so I assume they are just replacing it....$$$

 

Chrysler Crossfire Master Cylinders - JCWhitney This parts store link shows there is a Master cylinder and a booster, I wonder if they can tell which it is or if they are just going to start replacing things until the figure it out. Hope this doesn't cost large $$$ fo ryou just to find out what it is.

 

From my experience with my Chevy truck.. when the booster goes..you have full pedal..and its both feet and stand on the pedal to build enough pressure to get stopped. Based on the symptons I'd go with the bad-failing master cylinder.

So do you have any update - Did replacing the Masert Brake Cylinder fix your issue?

I'm waiting to see if that worked for you before I pull the trigger on a MBC replacement to try and fix my similar soft Brake issue.

I noticed by driving around a bit more the pedal is still the same "soft" but the light has never come on again.

Yes, I had the master cylinder changed and it is running, rather brakeing PERFECTLY!!

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I have new tires on it too so I've been busy driving...
