Default Thinking about new wheels, thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Well, it will be time for new tires before much longer. I'm really wanting some different wheels, and stepping down to 18's in the rear might offer a slightly more forgiving ride. I really like the look of some of the AMG wheels, and it seems replicas are available for most (if I had an SRT it would be cool to have actual AMG wheels, but not on a Limited) in 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 with a few options on offset. I'm sure with some small spacers I can make it work.

Just curious what others think, and maybe there's an even better wheel out there that I'm not aware of. I greatly prefer 5 spoke wheels in silver, machined or black with a polished/machined lip. Not real crazy about fully polished or chrome or rivets.

BTW, anyone else think a sticky where folks only post pix and info on their wheels (maybe tires) would be helpful. Most other forums have one. Saves a lot of time digging and searching to see what others have done.

Whoa! I hadn't seen his yet. I think you understated that a bit. That looks awesome! Plus, I really think the Crossfire looks good in red. Someday I may go Viper red on mine. If I could time that with a V8 swap...

I'm still thinking a sticky dedicated to just wheels would be good. If I get bored I might work on sifting through threads/pix and see what I could pull together.

The only problem with wheel threads is that they're extremely subjective. Some people want the wheels to be the absolute focal point of the car. Others want something other than the stock wheel that still preserves a tasteful OEM appearance. In other words, YOU know they're custom but 99% of other drivers would think it's an OEM "option box".

Five-spokes on this car are money. You simply can't go wrong with them, as long as they're Mercedes-ish in styling and you keep the barrels clean. A 10+ spoke wheel looks right at home also, because many MB coupes use the turbine-style wheel.

As long as the offsets are right and the color compliments the remaining trim/body color of the car, the wheels will look right at home.

If some people kept their rude comments to themselves and were nice and helpful instead we could have a nice place to see rims that did not come on the crossfire for anyone interested... i would love a wheel thread. I was going to make one but mine fell through as the company couldn't supply my offset requests lol. if you where wondering i was looking at VMR V710's and they look ike the 2nd picture you posted, i think theyd look great.

I know for a FACT you aren't directing that at me. I've been more than helpful with numerous wheel threads.

Most people, when "asking" the general public, do so because they have no commitment to either wheel at that point.

Frankly I don't care what someone puts on their car. It's their money, and if they've already installed it then I reserve comments altogether. But if you come to the forum asking for suggestions, be prepared to hear advice you may not like. It's really that simple.

If you take someone's preference personally, there are much deeper issues within that need to be addressed.

No no no, Not at you lol. There are several people on here that are just unbelievable in their responses to threads lol. Just stating if some people would leave the negativity in their head because no one needs to be told an idea is stupid for the exact reason you just stated, your car your money your opinion, and personally i would love to see more people make new mods that noone has done before. But usually a sticky wheel thread would be for showing what you have done versus a thread like this that is asking for opinions or advice...

Gotcha, I wasn't sure because we have our share of "passive-aggressive" posters on here. My bad for assuming.

I'm in 100% agreement. They way I see it, once someone has pulled the trigger and run their Visa for $1,000+, it's a safe bet that they are a fan of the design. And at that point, a barrage of "WTF" comments offer nothing constructive.

At one point I think there was a "show us your wheels" thread but it's likely buried in the archives. A fresh approach for the newbies and veterans alike might be fun. I'll go ahead and say that the wheels I currently have installed will be sold in the spring, in favor of a new design. I'm down to two designs, and likely won't make the decision until the last minute. Either one is a winner, for their own unique reasons.

Suspension and fender clearance limits our range of offsets. As a result, wheel brands/choices are limited and as the Mercedes-specific offset gets older and older, the wheel choices in that range will continue to diminish. Since 2008, many MB offsets are +40mm and higher. Our +22 in the rear is especially hard to come by.

Well as far as a sticky, the way the more successful threads usually go, you post a pic of your car, give the specs on the wheels and/or tires, and move on. Comments are generally unwelcome. Problem is they take more moderation, and that might not be something that's wanted here.

I agree with your statements. I think a silver wheel will look good with the silver trim on the Crossfire, however I've seen some chrome and black wheels that look amazing on these cars.

I'm just looking for suggestions here. I appreciate any feedback...

Found another I really like.

Id like to see them as i am really trying to find something. And i hear ya on the offsets... what a pain. One plan i have is to get 20mm adapters that would be good for two reasons. one i could have a car with studs instead of the ever so annoying lug bolts lol and two i could fit some rims. obviously the disadvantage is there of stress on the hub but i feel safe with adapters as you can torque them and then leave them there. Any thoughts?

LOVE that, looks really nice. I have a gunmetal car with color matching rims and love that look as ou can see from my gallery, but i think silver really would look good to bc of our stock accents. Black looks nice too but my only problem is a lot of time you loose the beauty of the wheel because its so dark. Would you be able to do a photoshop for me by the way?

Those are rotary-forged, too... so they're very lightweight. TSW has really been impressing me lately with their offerings.

The ones Casey posted (Mirabeau) are brand-new and are supposedly two-piece wheels. Not sure how light they are, but the offsets are as close to perfect as we will get.

Regarding adapters -- I'm not very fond of them, but there are many folks that use them w/o issue. With either of my wheel choices, I'll have to use a small spacer on the rear... but the fronts will bolt directly to the hub. As long as the spacers are high-quality and hub-centric, there shouldn't be an issue. The only down-side, is most of the "big name" tire shops won't touch your car if it's running spacers. They don't want the liability.

**EDIT**

6,000th post, woo-hoo

TSW and all of the million rebranded TSWs are good options to sift through because of the offsets and 18/19 availability. JHM did all the grunt work on the wilhelms, I just copied but I would recommend them. The only real negative is the weight, for being bigger than the stockers they are basically the same once mounted up. If they had the same style/sizes but lighter I would jump right on em right away.

If you have any good wheel shops local (specially high end) you can try stopping by and giving them all the measurements you are looking for. They can do some homework for you and can usually find some options you wouldn't see otherwise.
