I have the same problem. My mechanic told me it is worn pads and rotors. It is in the shop now. I'll let you know if that fixes the problem.

does it feel "spongy" and pads and rotors don't really explain why it isn't starting to stop prior to getting half way because it is a pressurized system. Sounds like your master cylinder needs replacing.

Yes, it is a little spongy, but pedal stops firmly before reaching the floor. It just travels further than normal. I know it needs front pads and rotors because my mechanic showed me the wear. If that doesn't fix it, we'll look further.

The brake system self compensates for wear of the pads and rotors. Therefore you would not know by pedal travel that there was any wear.

These pedals go down quite a way before they bottom out, I know as I went that route despite what other Crossfire owners said to me. As long as the pedal does not keep going down and there is no leaking brake fluid visible anywhere you should be OK.

Update. Mechanic replaced pads and rotors, did a test drive, and brakes were still spongy. He then bled the brake lines, removing air, and brakes now feel normal. End of story.

Not quite the end of story, he should have replaced all the brake fluid if they never have had it replaced before.

It IS important to flush the old brake fluid out now and then. I learned this the hard way, with stuck calipers. I took them apart, and found the pistons were rusted from all the moisture that the fluid retains over time.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check with my mechanic and have brake fluid flushed the next time I take it in. He doesn't normally recommend unneeded work, but didn't ask about the history either.

Maybe try bleeding the break lines.

Thanks. As indicated in Post #7, mechanic bled the lines and that solved the problem.
