Decent tires?
I've got a 2004 Crossfire that needs new tires. The tires currently on the car, are the original tires and are dry rot and cracked.
Just some background, I'm a college student, that drives about 3 miles back and forth to school/work and I've put about 6k miles on the car this year. It currently only has around 28k. I don't do any kind of racing/track stuff, so performance isn't really a concern. I live in the central valley of California, so I don't get hardly any rain, just 100+ heat in the summer. I'm just looking to get some cheap tires that I can put on the car and will be safe while I drive, with maybe the occasional 200 mile trip down to San Diego every few months.
The quote I got from the shop is for these.
They are the standard 225/40ZR18XL for the front and 255/35ZR19XL in the rear. For the two fronts, they are $80 each, and the rears are $97 each. With the road force wheel balance/weights/disposal fee, the shop quoted $482, which is extremely reasonable considering the Chrysler dealership wanted $1600 to install a new set of the originals.
Are these a decent tire that will last me a few thousand miles? Does anyone have any recommendations for a sub-$500 set of tires that I could put on these? Or one that isn't too much more than that? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tirerack has firestone indy 500 in those sizes for right at $100 each. If you're not going racing or planning to do anything crazy really any tire will work for this car.
I'm having the tires installed today. I'll report back with what I think of them. It's going to be around $440 for the tires, mount, and road force balance. Hopefully they are decent, as I plan on driving a few hundred miles for a trip in a couple weeks.
I hope they work out for you. Can you tell us where they are made?
Got them installed, and they feel pretty good in the 10 or so miles I've driven them.
They are the GT Champiro UHP1 92W BSW in the front, and 96W in the back. Stock sizes. I've got no clue where they were made. I got them through Big Brand Tire.

They are Chinese. The ban was recently lifted. I would stay away, but you gotta get to work.
I tried the G-Max, not to bad. Wore well with good grip. Balancing them was a pain. Now running Conti DW's. Sticky. No rain data yet. Smooth and quiet with a couple thousand on them as of now.

I am running Nitto Motivo's now in the front, with Falken FK 452's rear. The Falkens have ~ 5K on them. They (the Nitto) did very well at the Dragon last fall. They are a harder (longer lasting) compound and have a 50K warranty. Beating them pretty hard through the twisties, they gripped as well as the Falkens. For the price, warrantied, and made in Georgia (USA, not the former SSR) makes them a win in my eyes. And pocketbook.
