The Dragon is next week - ANYONE found in possession of a spare tire is banned from the event.
If motorcyclists can travel the USA with no spare, we can as well. We are just as adventuresome and free-spirited as they are.

Be it so recorded.

Yes, but often there's a significantly different expectation between a motorcycle and a car.
Especially from the babe who's riding with you. She doesn't expect to get stranded in a car.
Whereas, that's always a commonly known and understood possibility with a motorcycle.
---> See post # 24 above, in particular bullet point # 3.

Between 2009 -2013 we had a 2007 stick and a 2008 automatic. One day at about 80 mph I hit what looked like a 3 inch long metal straw. Got over to the side of the highway. Pulled out the metal straw. Hooked up the goo & compressor. Didn't fill tire. Looked underneath....when tire deflated at 80....wheel sliced the tire open ...18 inch long gash. Eventually, had someone take me home and take one of the rears off the '08 in the garage & go back to the '07.

Was on I-95 northbound in Florida (heavy traffic, driving a 2002 Camaro ex FHP Interceptor) and hit a tractor-trailer tire carcass at @ 85mph right lane keeping up with traffic. The SUV directly in front of me easily rolled over that thing but these Camaros sit very low to the ground. Took it center and WOW for the second or two (seemed forever) it passed slapping/banging all along the underside of the car, I expected a huge spray of nearly every line/hose within its reach bouncing under the car. Not seeing anything but aware it could have ripped something out, I pulled over (way off the roadway, while cars/trucks went everywhere around it after it 'released' from under my car). The car I was following (during the return trip back to SC), pulled off the exit about 1/4 mile up the road. NOT SEEING anything leaking, and getting back on the hwy to the exit, I see them right off the hwy in a McD's parking lot. Pulling into the lot, I was able to better see everything under the car (the asphalt lot wasn't 'lumpy' nor filled with high grass), we spend about ten minutes checking front to back, the only thing 'leaking' was the A/C drain. We (I) was extremely lucky there wasn't a 'ring' with that carcass! The lead vehicle in our 2 vehicle convoy was driven by an ex trucker (and I had driven a number of heavy equipment during my 23 yrs mil service). After the small meal (giving me time to relax and stretch), we continued. I'm glad we didn't need to pull out the compact spare in the right rear compartment (and) knowing if the car was rendered undrivable we could have been stuck for a while. The rest of the trip was uneventful. It is nice to have a spare, so far the XF has been great with the two sets of tires to date. We have a set of the rubberized plugs with the reamer and plug insert tool in all of our vehicles, so if needed all we have to do is 'cut' off the excess after plugging a puncture in the tread.
