Tpms and module replacement ??
Hi, It's been awhile since on here. I have a '06 roadster with 9700 miles; new tires installed and TPMS 433 MHz at the same time; went to Chrysler to reset to computer. Now Chrysler is telling me that the module for the reprogramming NEEDS
replaced and is BAD. If the old sensors were working and since just wore out, how can this be ? Is Chrysler just wanting to rip me off for $900 ? DO THESE MODULES FAIL ? Did not make any sense to me ... Please help ... thanks

Did not see this previous reply .. under the weather .. Did not buy the car new, BUT the system was working just fine until the dash icon came on AND I know that these units have a longevity life; assuming it just ran out ..
I do not like things ' not ' functioning as they should ..
So getting back to the orig. question, does the module that regulates ( monitors ) these FAIL ? Any help ... thanks

I purchased my 2005 SRT6 in 2019 with a TPMS dash light on. Two of the tire pressure sensors were dead when tested at the local tire store. When I later had tires replaced, I intended to use Schrader 33700 programmable EZ sensors, and have the tire shop simply copy the ID numbers from the original labels on the old sensors and program the new sensors with those numbers using their scanner/programming tool. That would have worked and solved all problems, except that one of the old labels was damaged and illegible. Since the battery was dead in that sensor, we saw no way to get the ID number out. So I instead purchased four Schrader 20028 sensors (which I believe are the OEM replacements.) These sensors all came with new unique ID numbers. That sent me on the path that others here have gone down, which is to buy the Micropod interface module and a DRBIII compatible (i.e.old) laptop computer to connect to the Crossfire brain and perform a reset of the TPMS to recognize the new sensors. After reading this forum for months (see thread titled "DRBIII Emulator?") I recently took the plunge and purchased the Micropod 2 from OBDII365.com (it comes with all required software on CD, and USB cable for $135) and an E-bay refurbished laptop computer, with a Win 7 Pro, 32 bit operating system. After following the detailed directions referenced many times in that thread, and on the OBDII365.com website, I can report success; The car is reading all of the new tire pressure sensors now and the TPMS dash light is out, so long as pressures are good. (As an aside, I already had a set of spare wheels, so I also bought the programmable Schrader 33700 E-Z sensors and had them cloned to match the new 20028 sensors in the primary wheels. I should be able to swap wheels without doing a reset.)
I know that there are cheaper alternatives for aftermarket TPMS's, or simply disconnecting the overhead wire to the dash light, or covering the light with black tape (which I did for a while) but I decided that I wanted to original system to work, if possible.
I could not have done it without the information posted by others on this forum, especially "John&Terry" for posting the required links and a .pdf file which shows screen shots of the sequence of steps within the DRBIII program needed to reset the TPMS. There are many others who posted helpful information too. For reference, I did not modify my Micropod, and I only did the TPMS reset and observed sensors on the car (tire pressures, engine operating parameters, etc.) I cannot vouch for what else you may be able to change or do inside of the control system. (My intention to to stay stock on this car. If I get the urge to change something, I'll tinker instead on my 1971 Duster because I am less likely to cause harm there!)
