Default Emergency Brake

Yesterday I was driving my ‘05 SRT6 when it appeared as though my brakes were suddenly dragging and I was getting smoke from both rear tires. I stopped to let them cool and didn’t note anything visually so I dragged it the last mile home. This am I tried to remove my rotors and they were hung up on the emergency brake shoes that hadn’t fully retracted. That was apparently my problem yesterday.
The handbrake seems to operate normally but the shoes do not retract. Is it linkage, have to replace shoes or…?
Thanks as always!

If you do not use the emergency brake often the cable can seize up inside. As to the shoes, only you know what state they are in. Did the top hat get scored ? Or did the rotor get warped?
Did you use and forget the hand brake was on or partly on?
I occasionally use the handbrake just to keep it in shape, mostly on hills.
