Sound System in Crossfire Roadster
Sound System in Crossfire Roadster
Hi,
Has anyone changed the sound system in their Crossfire Roadster. My 2008 came with the Infinity System and I am not to happy with the quality.
When I test drove a Nissan 350Z Roadster it had a Bose Sound System and was fantastic.
Any suggestions or ideas.
I would appreciate any ideas and thoughts.

Re: Sound System in Crossfire Roadster
I have a base roadster (the HU says Infinity but I have no amp/rear subs). My passenger-side woofer is blown. I'm looking for ideas as well. It has to cut through on the highway with the top down...
The head unit really doesn't cut it. I need something that can handle MP3s on USB thumb drives. I need to replace the woofers, and may as well replace the tweeters while I'm in there.
All speculative, of course
Phase 1 ~ $650
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X794
Infinity Reference 475a
Infinity Kappa 63.9i
Infinity Kappa 10.9t
Phase 2 ~ $400 (Might not happen if Phase 1 sounds good.)
2 x Kicker 10CVT654
Kenwood KAC-7205

Re: Sound System in Crossfire Roadster
My car is an SE so it has the base system (no amp and only four speakers). All I've done so far is to change the head unit to a JVC and I can't get over the improvement.
I hope to add a reasonable JVC amplifier and some speakers behind the seats this summer. So far, the JVC set me back $85 and again, it made SUCH a difference.

Re: Sound System in Crossfire Roadster
I can tell you THIS, my $85 JVC blows the factory unit away in several ways - not VOLUME, but in quality of audio and versatility, it is a whole new world over the factory stuff. I've been told for the seven years I've owned my three Crossfires that the factory sound in our cars can be vastly improved for little money, and last summer when I brought the SE home (with a defective OEM radio) - I went to Best Buy and got a new JVC (kinda funny, I WORK for JVCKenwood but it was easier to just go to BB than go thru our marketing people!)
Well, the JVC head is simply AWESOME. AND, the documentation showing it's wiring was WAY clearer than the factory mess. It was an easy matter to sit with the wiring sheet for our cars, compare it to what the JVC's wire colors were, and know which wire from the JVC goes to what wire in the car.
Mine is technically a Base model, now to get an amp and put in speakers behind the seats.................

Let's not mention your $85 JVC unit is the $250 one on Crutchfield.. PS.. summer is getting close to over..
Re: Sound System in Crossfire Roadster
I actually did an HU upgrade.. door capacitors.. amp break out to 4 channels.. and added an amplified bass cannon to my 04 coupe. Wife's 05 roadster only got the Kenwood HU upgrade (she's happy with just that and doesn't sound bad to me either) .. and my 06 roadster is completely stock Nav unit. I will most likely add a low profile infinity bass link type setup to it and call it good too.

Re: Sound System in Crossfire Roadster
I'd not suggest it, as my interior is modded - I think my JVC would look bad in a standard dash - I figure I can get away with it cause mine is cosmetically modded by the previous owner.
But, if a BLACK head suits you, mine is the KD-R660:
KD-R660 | In-Dash Receivers | JVC Mobile USA
Oddly enough, I work for JVCKenwood, and I don't even know for sure, but I THINK it is discontinued.
Oh, I was right:
JVC KD-R660 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com
I'd encourage you to look at JVC and Kenwood branded MARINE units, a bit more money - but they match our interiors!
