Default Hit a tire... hard.

Well, the jagoff driving a POS old Buick in front of me on my trip to Chattanooga wasn't paying attention to the road. He didn't see an 18 wheeler tire sitting dead the center of his lane. He drilled it at about 80mph, and with zero time to react so did I. Definitely destroyed the lower drivers grille. Also kicked the fog light out, tore out part of the wheel well, scuffed the bumper pretty bad, and knocked out the side marker... I'm going to get it off the ground tomorrow, but what should I look for?

Probably going to need an alignment too from the feel of it...

Yeah you're telling me. I'm trying to focus on finding out what is damaged and not being ticked. Hope I didn't bend any suspension parts. Going to have to figure out where to get a wheel well and lower grille. Possibly more. There's some wires hanging that I'm not sure what they are yet. I got the grille back, but its thrashed. Put it back on to direct the air even though it looks awful...

Amazon has decent deals on inner fender liners.. those wires are probably from the temperature sensor that sits in the drivers side lower grill.. check for sale section here.. carl had some lower grills for sale.. cheap for a pair..

Cool, thanks again. I asked Carl about the grille, and I'll check out the splash guard after I get under the car later today.

Ok, I was able to get the car off the ground to survey they damage more closely.
Front splash guard needs replaced. Driver's lower grille. The plastic part of the fog light housing is cracked/missing some pieces. The bumper has some minor gouges and some minor damage to the paint from the bending of the bumper. The temp sensor snapped back in fine, but the temperature reading is now off by about 10 degrees. Steering wheel is slightly off center.

So question is... can you purchase just the plastic for the fog light housing, or do you have to replace the whole thing?

It's the glass that breaks, there should be a ton of plastic parts out there.
I have one I'm sure.

Thanks Doc... The fortunate part is no one was hurt, and it appears the damage is only cosmetic. Repainting the bumper will probably be the worst of it, expense wise. I certainly wouldn't say no to an extra pair of hands if the schedules line up!

Very frustrating!

I had to replace my fog lamp and lower drivers side grille also, due to roadway debris.

In my case it happened on the interstate. An igloo cooler was tagged by a car on another lane ahead of me which sent the cooler bouncing over to my lane. The cooler was too late to avoid and struck it at 75mph...(oh the sound of impact you never want to hear, tearing into your beautiful car! Ouch!)

Cost of the front end damage was $50. for a used foglamp. They normally sell north of $100 used. A new OEM driverside lower grille for $55. ordered online. It took one hour of my time replacing the parts and buffing scuff marks.

I probably would have gotten out of it even cheaper than that actually, but the bumper folded a bit damaging the paint and really needs repainted. It needed it eventually anyway, now it just needs it sooner. I'm also going to have it put on an alignment rack.

One time I was driving and a mattress flew off the top of a van from oncoming traffic. The corner of the mattress hit the ground in front of my car, kind of bounced, and flew right across my hood. I escaped that completely unscathed, but my friends say I have bad "carma." I think there's been 6 separate occasions where my car (not the Crossfire thankfully) has been hit without me even in it, about 4 incidents with road debris now (2 with the Crossfire), a raccoon, a deer, and a couple bad drivers. The worst was a guy who pulled out from behind a stopped bus without looking. Managed to scratch and dent every panel on the passenger's side of my tC. Somehow I still got $4000 when I traded that tC in for the Crossfire. No idea how.
