Do I Need Spacers
Do I Need Spacers
I just bought a set of Sport Edition ST4 wheels for my roadster and need to know if I need spacers on the rear. The stock offset for the front is: +35mm and the rear is: +22mm. My new wheels are front: +32mm which I'm good without any spacers but the rears are: +36mm a 14mm(roughly 1/2 inch) difference from stock. I'm leaving for the Tail of the Dragon on April 3rd and won't have the spacers by then. Is it alright to drive with a 14mm difference on each rear wheel or should I leave stock wheels on till I get back? I don't want to damage the wheels or drive an unsafe car while at the Dragon. Thanks, Pat
Re: Do I Need Spacers
Nice wheels! The rears will "most likely" rub the inner fender wells aggressively. Put them on and see. Going around the block won't hurt anything even with a bad rub. I see a 12mm or 15mm spacer in your near future which means you'll need longer lug bolts too. The perfect offset will depend on how wide the rear tires are. If stock both 12mm and 15mm will work.
You definitely can't have a rub at speed cornering at the Dragon. Rubbing has the same affect as applying just the rear brakes. The rear of the car will snap loose on you.
