DO NOT DO WHAT I JUST DID!
Over decades in electronics and I just pulled the DUMBASS MOVE OF THE DAY. What did I do? I ignored the fact my dome light didn't work.
So here is my story:
In writing the "Battery Drain PaperV3", I did a lot of messing around under the hood. Once I got done, I noticed that:
My convertible top no longer worked.
My Wing would not move.
My door locks would not work at all.
Pressing my FOB buttons made the lights blink, but again, the lock pump didnt work.
I made up my mind I had somehow blown up the CLP/SSM. SO, I bought a used one from a guy in GA, it arrived today. Put it in, NOTHING changed.
$120 wasted and I'm no where.
WHen telling my granddaughter about my nightmare, something occured to me - why does the dome light not work? Well, I found that I'd checked all fuses, but had pulled one fuse and layed it aside when I was experimenting. Forgot about it.
Looked at fuse card and realized that I was missing a fuse and remembered it, plugged it in, got dome lights and all else works fine.
HERE IS THE THING: The dome light fuse (in 07 anyway) powers a part of the BCM, that part apparently had an effect on CAN BUS communication from the SKREEM and BCM to the CLP/SSM.
What a damn day............................................... ..........
DO NOT OVERLOOK AN OBVIOUS SIGN. Fix the dome light, you may find that you fix MORE than the DOME light. (I should point out that I had no dome or trunk light. 04-06s are set up different than 07-08s so I wont waste my time telling you which fuse to check, because they moved things around over the years. MAKE SURE any EMPTY fuse location really is supposed to be empty. I ignored that cause the SE is a base and is missing at least five fuses under the hood: Power seats, seat heater, no TPMS, no Homelink, etc. With a limited I'd have noticed this faster, I"m sure. )
Fix the dome light now, then move on.
