Scanners work in OBD mode but when I give it the car specific it goes for a few minutes and fails with "communications failure". Two different professional level scanners. Tried to find PO but is in Georgia and no success so far. Seems to have come from a Georgia auction last June. Started out as a great deal and am finding out why. Still good and in the right place since can compare to SLK320, electrically is the same. Concened that the red thingie does not flash and spare key does not seem to be a chip key (wondering where my chip reader is). Can you see the SKREEM from underneath with the panel removed ?
Sounds like a skreem delete was done. You can only see it if the cluster is removed. It is possible neither of your keys have transponders either. It is possible you might just need to plug back one cable to the skreem to make the keyfobs work, it is mentioned on another thread which cable (assuming skreem delete).

Most scanners cannot read it as a Crossfire only SLK320. You can try scanning it as a 2007 or 2008 Crossfire, sometimes that works.

When using the key in cylinder, it should lock both doors and trunk.

Thank you. Never heard of a SKREEM delete before, need to search, but does seem to fit the symptoms.

Again, until LAST WEEK, there was no SKREEM Delete, only a mod that removed the "Secure Start" feature, but the SKREEM was returned after the fix, and put back in the car to perform Remote Key Entry functions. That way, the FOB still works.

Anyone who thinks I am wrong is welcome to PROVE to me that ANY vendor was doing a FULL SKREEM delete. EVERY time I asked, the answer was "we fixed the ECU so it can start without the SKIM feature in the SKREEM, then we return all items to the customer so the SKREEM can be put back in and the FOBs still lock and unlock the car." The DELETE was where they DELETED the ECU's dependence on the SKIM function in the SKREEM. This was no easy task, it took Rudy and Josh (working separately) YEARS to accomplish.

If any vendor was doing full SKREEM deletes, who was it?

I have no idea who worked on his car before. There are companies in the US and Europe that have been disabling skreems for a while or whatever you want to call it. Most of the time nobody hooked up the correct wire back to their skreem. That may be the situation he is having.

Mercedes stopped supporting skreems for their own cars a few years ago. Anyone can clone key fobs or work with skreems. They sell the equipment and software online. I do not think any one you mentioned spent years trying to hack the system.

Just trying to gather as much information as possible before tearing things apart. Have the schematics (section 8A in FSM) printed out, (Remote keyless entry and Power door locks) but since console switch works to lock/unlock can skip most of the back end. May wind up just adding an el cheapo RKE, has two fobs and was originally for an Allante (like oddball 2 seaters). But first I need to understand what has been done here. Best part is either key reliably starts/runs. Thanks for the help.

Andre yes for sure. Companies have been working on skreems for a while now.

DO NOT DO WHAT I JUST DID!

Over decades in electronics and I just pulled the DUMBASS MOVE OF THE DAY. What did I do? I ignored the fact my dome light didn't work.

So here is my story:
In writing the "Battery Drain PaperV3", I did a lot of messing around under the hood. Once I got done, I noticed that:
My convertible top no longer worked.
My Wing would not move.
My door locks would not work at all.
Pressing my FOB buttons made the lights blink, but again, the lock pump didnt work.

I made up my mind I had somehow blown up the CLP/SSM. SO, I bought a used one from a guy in GA, it arrived today. Put it in, NOTHING changed.
$120 wasted and I'm no where.

WHen telling my granddaughter about my nightmare, something occured to me - why does the dome light not work? Well, I found that I'd checked all fuses, but had pulled one fuse and layed it aside when I was experimenting. Forgot about it.
Looked at fuse card and realized that I was missing a fuse and remembered it, plugged it in, got dome lights and all else works fine.

HERE IS THE THING: The dome light fuse (in 07 anyway) powers a part of the BCM, that part apparently had an effect on CAN BUS communication from the SKREEM and BCM to the CLP/SSM.

What a damn day............................................... ..........

DO NOT OVERLOOK AN OBVIOUS SIGN. Fix the dome light, you may find that you fix MORE than the DOME light. (I should point out that I had no dome or trunk light. 04-06s are set up different than 07-08s so I wont waste my time telling you which fuse to check, because they moved things around over the years. MAKE SURE any EMPTY fuse location really is supposed to be empty. I ignored that cause the SE is a base and is missing at least five fuses under the hood: Power seats, seat heater, no TPMS, no Homelink, etc. With a limited I'd have noticed this faster, I"m sure. )

Fix the dome light now, then move on.

Will try and why I try to mention everything however
Dome light is fuse 9 (will check)
Locks work from switch on console (console buttons work when key on)
Spoiler works from switch on console
All locks open when open driver's door
Fob buttons do nothing.
Glove box lamp works

Thank you.

And fuse 9 was missing entirely but when applied a known good fuse it did nothing. Going to have to start tracing things but at least that one is easy, hot all time, directly to dome light switch (and BCM) and then through lights to ground. May get to after dinner but dome light cover is not being easy to remove. Added to all the other symptoms and the horn works but only with key on ???

The horn working only with the key on was normal unless the RCM was modified by DJ. Have you checked the RCM relays?

At this point am just relating all of the things found, have not been able to contact the PO to ask but at one point Hendrick corp was involved. Suspect I am finding out why it has been to auction twice and got what I though was a good deal from a dealer advertising on facebook.

No big just want to understand what is going on and may just add an aftermarket RKE to lock and unlock.

ps "a dumb design". A dumb design was a stop light that only works with the key on.
