Help both key fobs stopped working
Both my key fobs will not lock or unlock. I don’t drive the car very often. Put new batteries in both fobs. Lights up when I press lock or unlock. Just tried to reprogram one, nothing.
So a little while back I could press unlock 20,30 times and it would. Now nothing. How could both key fobs stop working?
Is there a receiver on the car that could have gone bad?
Thanks for any help.

Additional info. The car starts fine with both fobs. But when I push lock or unlock, the blinkers don’t flash, no alarm beep, no lock or unlock.
I would try pushing the unlock button inside the car. If the locks lock/unlock let us know. If this doesn't work.
Check fuse # 9. If your replace fuse #9 and it opens again then.
Has the siren ever been replaced? If not try unhooking it and let us know. It is located under the windshield wiper cowl. You will need a small puller to get the windshield wipers off.
There is a great thread on this forum just search siren.
Next, Have you checked the passenger side trunk well under the black molded foam for water? You can slide a piece of printer paper down between the black foam piece and the far right passenger side and if it come up wet you know. There is a great thread for this as well search headlight headache water in trunk.
This is where I would start please let us know what you find.
I hope this helps get you started. If you have more questions please ask.

Hey Doc thanks for the response.
The unlock button on the console does NOT work.
Fuse #9 on the side of the dash is good. If you are referring to one in the engine compartment please let me know.
The siren started freaking out a few years ago. I couldn’t get the windshield wipers off so I disconnected it, left it in place and connected a new siren.
I haven’t checked the trunk for water since I can’t unlock the hatch.

I apologize I did mean fuse # 9 in the engine compartment.
To access the trunk here is a great link. If the handle is floppy you must go through the drivers side licence plate light. I placed a link below with video.

Question for anyone knowledgeable in the SKREEM. ('05,roadster base, 6M)
I recently encountered the problem where key fobs both failed; turning the key in the door lock set off the alarm and engine turned over but stalled immediately. With the help of advice this forum, I unplugged battery, gave it some time, and when I reconnected power things seemed to work fine again (both remotes worked, car started...).
Question: did I successfully reset the SKREEM and I can expect smooth sailing here on out; or in people's experience is this problem likely to recur, and maybe even get more frequent? (I will replace the module if needed, but hoping to avoid it - SKREEM rebuild is $600 + my lost weekend(s) to do the work)
TIA for any insights.

I WOULD STRONGLY suggest you do the James1549 ground cable mod, and make sure all battery connections are clean and tight. I"ve done the mod to my last two Roadsters and we do it at tech days quite often.

You seem to put very few miles on your car. Could be the FOBs need to be synchronized.

Thanks for your feedback.
I installed a trickle charger for the New England winter months of ice and road salt when the Roadster is idled in my garage (after battery ran down my first winter - seems like a common problem in this vehicle) so I will try to integrate that into the improved grounding solution.
And BTW, the trickle charger works great. The (likely) SKREEM problem occurred when the car was NOT plugged in - I had taken it out to bask in a few days of unseasonably warm weather and the problem occurred after several days when it had not been plugged in.
