Default Key won't unlock doors

So i've got a bit of an issue, when i bought the car it only came with one key fob and i haven't gotten around to buying another one yet. Anyway, the buttons on my fob stopped working so I went to try to unlock and lock the door with the key and was unsuccessful. Is this normal that the key won't work in the door? Is there any fix for this? Any help is appreciated.

Did your key fob "ever" lock and unlock the doors manually? Sometimes a previous owner may have had to fix his sticky lock by drilling out the tumblers and having a new key made, AND then not changing out the door locks, and the glove box lock. If your remote fob has sudddenly quit working, change the batteries in it. My .................$.02

The key itself will unlock the driver door and glovebox even if it won't start the car. It's a manual key. If it turns the ignition but does not start the car, it may be the fob battery or it may need to be re-programmed. Those instructions are in many posts on this forum.
