I took my 2006 Crossfire, The Silver Fox along with a high school buddy and his 1964 260Z Datsun out for a drive along 226A, better known as The Diamondback in North Carolina.


226A had a lot of construction and the new road surface was great. What was scary was the 10" drop down to the old shoulder. We stopped at Little Switzerland Inn for lunch


.







The pictures were taken at the pool looking and the Blue Ridge Mountains.


Suggest this location as a place to stay for a Crossfire rally someday. Can drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, Lake James Route and McDowell County Scenic Roads.


After lunch we went onto the Blue Ridge Parkway for a great day of driving the mountains of NC.

 

Well they do have a point, it is not an AMG product.
It is not a Mercedes.
It is a Chrysler, conceived using In Vitro fertilization.

It does have Mercedes DNA, being made from the Mercedes parts bin with some new components identified with Mercedes part numbers. Strangely I cannot recall seeing parts that have permanently molded Chrysler part numbers or logos on them.

It has only a little Chrysler DNA despite what its birth certificate says and as such it has little connection to any Chrysler products, and none to any of the American Motors products.

It is a strange animal, loved by neither parent who divorced shortly after its birth. It is now disowned by its father, largely ignored by its mother and left to roam the highways, many identified by stick-on labels that further confuse.

Talk about an identity crisis.

 

Beautiful, one of the things I miss about being in NC. Nice Z there too. I've always wanted to own one, as a project car. Any larger photos?

That would be the one year only, "1974" Datsun 260Z (Last year for carbs) My long time friend still has his 1975 280 Z that he purchased brand new (after I talked him out of buying a 914).
We took a cross country trip in it back in 1978, and as soon as we got back I bought a new 79 280 ZX.

The Crossfire is as much of a Chrysler as the "Sprinter" is a Dodge.

Mechanically I agree. But the Crossfire was at least custom coachwork on a Mercedes chassis

His 280 Z came from Tri-City Datsun in Tallmadge (no longer there by the way).

Is your friends Z white or silver? I can't tell from the photograph. I don't remember ever seeing it around our area. Trust me, I look at everyone I see. I love em. My biggest regret is that I didn't buy a brand new "left over" 1978 Datsun 280 Z instead of the later model 79 280 ZX.
The Z's have a "Timeless" design.
It would be cool to meet your friend, I'd love for my buddy to see his car, maybe it would give him the incentive to get his back on the road. He and his Wife live over in Fairlawn now. He also has an absolutely beautiful 1970 Mustang Mach I (That originally came from North Carolina.) Like the Z, both cars have been parked for years.

Chopped my exhaust back off... Car fell off of the jack stands and put a nice bulge in the drivers side sideskirt :O

EDIT: I was not under the car, I was trying to lift it higher by putting wood under my bottle jack. It was stable until it lifted off of the jack stands and BLAM

 

Changed out my interior air filter, and tried a DIY front lip...on the lip, I just followed the indentation that's under there...didn't take it all the way around because I didn't want to cover anything up...

 

Ego, you won't get any argument from me. But with an interior essentially ripped directly out of an SLK, can somebody please tell me just exactly what pieces came from the "Chrysler" parts Bin, and not fabricated by Karmann of "Germany".
