First car show of the year today for the Crossfire, 400+ vehicles. They broke it down to two classes, Top 80 1994 and older and Top 60 1995 and newer. I counted 81 cars in my class and I know I probably missed a few. I counted 41 Mustangs, 12 Corvettes, 11 Challengers and 3 Prowlers. I was the only Crossfire. To top it all off I got home and my wife had put together a little birthday celebration for me. All around a great day.
Congrats!
Sometimes it's nice to be unique alone, then to blend in with the herds.
I (like yeah me) damaged the paint on the doors edge.
The garage is a little tight right now and I was trying to get some mat fitment measurements for a manufacturer of mats.
I have kitchen cabinets and counter top installed down one wall.
Instead of turning the xfire around and having enough room to open the door fully, I just tossed a towel over the wooden counter top and cabinet drawers.
Long story short the door rubbed on the edge of the wooden counter top and damaged the paint.
After crying, then throwing wrenches (just kidding) I called it quits for the day.
My question, does anyone out there know if this can be repaired without the entire door needing paint?
i get nervous about going to auto body/paint shops because i don't know enough about that s..t to carry on an honest conversation.
Just asking for some thoughts before I start talking to some paint shops
I thought i had attached with the post, here is the damage

That's what I was afraid of.....well, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are. You can, and should, use some factory matched touchup paint to at least fill this in as soon as possible. Automotivetouchup.com is a great resource for touchup paint, whether in a pen, bottle or spray can. Being that this is a light colored metallic paint it's going to be a bit tricky to exactly match the appearance of the flake particles, but at least you'll dramatically minimize the appearance of the damage. I'd go slow and add multiple really thin layers to build this up a bit. On a flat area you could then let the paint dry, lightly sand it down with 3000 grit and buff it out - I've done this with non metallic paints and you can't tell that a repair was ever done. Metallic changes things, and the fact that this is on a panel edge really complicates things. The thinnest paint on a car is on the panel edges because the paint tends to flow away from it while curing. This is part of the reason we always have to be careful with panel edges when rotary polishing paint, and it's why we tape off these areas before doing so. So sanding on the edge becomes very problematic and, quite frankly, I would advise against it unless you've already got a pretty high skill set for that sort of thing. I've wet sanded plenty of cars, and machine polished classic cars worth millions of dollars, and I don't like sanding edges at all!
Those days of me trying to repair something like this are long gone, I'll just start stopping at shops and ask around.
Can you tell me where I can find the paint code on this car, I have looked and looked but am not coming up with anything. It sounds like you be the man to talk with when it comes to detailing, pleased to meet you M-in-O.
Thanks for your reply

The code cannot be found on the car, maybe it was on once but they sprayed over it. LOL
For 2008 models, Silver metallic colour I assume from the picture, not SSB 775 - P75 -Bright Silver Metallic - Chrysler Pen/Brush #68011571AA, Chrysler Spray can #68011572AA, Sherwin Williams #68287

Yeah it looks like they painted most everything else, lol.
What kind of paint do they use to come off like that, if my old trusty pontiac vibe would have been rubbing that wood for the brief time that this was, it would have probably rubbed a hole in the wood first, lol.
either way, I f....d up my new xfire and feel like, ah how to be polite - well that sucks.
180, thanks for the codes, do you mean to tell me that Chrysler actually painted the car? I guess I just answered my question, ha
What do you mean by SSB?

Happy to help, sorry it couldn't have worked out better.
As for the detailing part of things..... yeah, I work for Meguiar's and my title is "Senior Global Product & Training Specialist". I've had the great pleasure to help train some of the top detailers from around the world - guys who have prepped cars that have won Ridler Awards, Best of Show at Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, Villa d'Este and others. Pretty cool job that lets me meet a lot of great people and work on some pretty amazing cars.... and they pay me to do it!!! What a racket, huh?!?!?

Attached file lists the color codes (with tint formulations) by model year for the Crossfire. Machine Gray is color of my Coupe and many paint suppliers says it's the same formulation as Graphite Gray. Color Codes are sometimes listed as PDR for both; but tint formulations are distinctively different (184 vs. 759). I always supply both when ordering touchup paint.
I had a similar door paint issue when I accidently bumped my Honda V-twin getting out of the Crossfire in the garage. (Yeah, and I threw a fit! Heard me all over the cul-de-sac!) Used a paint pen from Automotive Touchup to cover the spot. Applied a clear coat using a paint pen once I was satisfied with color buildup. Hard for anyone to know it's there unless I show them.

Got a break in the weather today and gave the 2007 Coupe a thorough washing and then dried it off using a micro-fiber drying towel. Got the Crossfire under cover before the afternoon T-storms started today. Whew!
This may help anyone looking for their paint code. I found mine under the rear bumper cover.
I think Blaze Red Crystal and Inferno Red Crystal were the same color code & tint formulation. Never did understand why Chrysler chose to rename the color as the model years came & went. Maybe others can chime in on this.

Maybe that door was repainted, what color is that underneath? Maybe the whole car was painted, what color is it under the hood?
Today I fitted a Flowmaster Super 44 to my Crossfire, OMG the sound is INCREDIBLE. Got it fitted by STS Bromley, and it was a pain but they made it work and I am over the moon. It's hard getting work done on our cars but for the guys on London if you need your exaust upgraded then give them a visit. It's all stainless steel but painted for extra protection. I have included pics.
