Default Xm Satellite Antenna Placement

I couldn't find where this has been discussed before. Saw one old post referring to outside rear of car placement. Is this the only workable solution?

I recently changed out the radio on my wife's new Fiat 500 and recommendations on their forum said to place the magnetic XM antenna to the top of the mounting bracket inside the dash. I did this and there has been no problem with reception. Has anybody tried this or is the outside mount the only option? I just happened to think about this and my install appointment is tomorrow morning. Help.

Got it installed today at Best Buy. Mounted it on the dash and you can hardly see it. After going back and forth I opted for the black Kenwood because of the features that I liked. It looks great and doesn't stand out as much as I thought it would. Also there's 25 different display colors to choose from which helps a lot too.

The cars with Navigation have that antenna buried in the dash ahead of the center air outlets. The Sat antenna, it would seem could go up in there as well - hiding it entirely.

Had I seen your post, I'd have responded right away, but we had a weather mess here in the past two days.

That's ok, thanks. I waited too long to start researching. I did find numerous posts eventually but most were seven years old and I thought that there may have been some technological changes during that time. I just didn't want it stick it to the top of the car. The way it is now, I hardly even notice it's there.

I really had most of my struggles with the color of the radio, silver versus black. I ordered the black and then thought it wouldn't look right. Read too many posts from folk's regarding silver vs. black and finally the morning of my installation returned it and was going to order the Clarion marine radio in silver. I got home and my wife told me I was crazy (not the first time that's happened) and after thinking it over - again- I went back to the store and "bought back" the radio I just returned an hour ago. It's not carried in the store so fortunately they found it in the back. By this time they probably thought I was crazy too. I rescheduled the install for that afternoon, got it in and love it. I knew that whatever decision I made I was going to have to live with it for a long time but anyway, it all worked out. At least now I'm not driving down the road with some satellite dish attached to the roof!
