Default Replacement Radio-satellite capable

Okay I've read everything I can find in here about replacing my head unit to avoid FM modulated satellite radio. I called Crutchfield thinking they would say here's what fit's perfectly, a direct connect harness, etc, etc, Well they said "no we don't have anything for the XFire that you just take the old radio out, put the new in, plug in the harness, hook up the antennae, and rock". They said I would have to rewire the front and rear speakers!!!!!!! I mean I want a satellite ready unit that I can drop in simply and continues to work thru ALL my door speakers and subs. Is it out there? Okay there's got to be an expert out there who can tell me if it's really going to be this hard or tell me the down and dirty as to how to make this happen. Appreciate anyone's help. Thanks

Hi, No big deal....I installed a VDO Dayton MS4200 Navigation System (I am an electrical engineer). The crysler schemattics from Tech Authority are labeled wrong. The fronts are driven by speaker-level outputs (NOT preamp) from stock Becker, so you just wire fronts-to-fronts. The rears are jumpered to the fronts in the cable harness that goes from radio to amplifier - there are splices about mid-cable beneath the dash under passenger footwell. The rear channel from the amps are labeled in the schematics as "power" and "twisted pair speaker leads" - NOT! These are dual voice coil subwoofers, and I highly recommend just leaving stock amp in there. I took the time to "unsplice" the fronts from rears on amp inputs, so the front fader is my fronts and the rear fader is my subwoofer, which improved bass response. But, if you just wanna' new radio, it is OK to just connect speaker leads from front channels of new radio direct to the existing left/right leads on the stock connector and go to factory amp. If someone needs the actual, Corrected version of the wiring diagram, I can draw it for them, just message me. PS, to all those previous with some knowledge of the wiring, the Infinity amp is designed around the Beckers high-level outputs (read speaker-level) - using stock preamps in the 0-5vdc range will not drive the input properly on the amp....PPS, the VDO Dayton unit looks great, better than factory, is way more usefull, and I installed CD-Changer in "trunk" in the foamed area by building in brackets. Also, I mounted 250W Sony amp in right rear footwell, driving some 4" component pioneers (woofer/twweter)I built into upper hatch area in rear. Adds a nice fill sound to back instead of the typical german "front sound stage" that the standard Infinity system gives......good luck!....chris

Dude... you got a bum sales rep or something. Nearly any standard DIN head unit will fit without anything else. Perhaps even DIN units that Crutchfield says won't fit. Anyhow... here's the other Crutchfield parts you need to plug and play your replacement head unit:
From my Crutchfield order:
P/N 120869001 Universal OEM DIN Tool Pair (removes stock head unit)
P/N 12040EU10 Euro antenna adapter
P/N 120701784 VW Wire harness (switch the red and yellow wires when connecting the VW harness to the new head unit harness, DO connect the amp turn on lead)

Okay, so now just pick any new head unit (Alpine comes to mind) that is Satellite capable, ready or whatever...

Good luck
PS Unless you are going to replace the stock amp you don't need to rewire anything. I didn't nor did the 10 or 15 other people that I've seen on this board.

Edit: if you still want it...

CyberGreg is correct in that any DIN-mount radio will physically fit the opening.

As for the wiring, please not the splices in the .pdf CG attached. You will note that there are only FOUR wires shown between radio and amp, with splices to break out radio's front channel to both front & rear amp inputs. That is because, as I mentioned in first post, that the amp is capable of both fron AND read inputs, but is crippled by the Becker only having front's out (please note lack of " FADER" in Becker. So, if you want to take advantage of the amp's capabilities to control Subwoofers as a rear channel (The becker is the first radio i've seen in 20 years with no rear channel/fader!), then you can (but'cha don't have'ta) root down the splices and rewire it as front/rear.

Also, as I noted, page 8W-47-5 of the Tech Authority wiring diagram is WRONg-0; The list the amp to wiring as "speaker Wriing Supply Voltage & Ground", when it is in reality a dual-coil Sub and each speaker has a pair of + & - terminals.........'Ave Fun!

ctsemicon, please don't call the stock head unit a Becker... I know they make it and all but come 'on it's an OEM radio manufactured by Becker and crippled by Chrysler with a Chrysler logo....

PS I have a real Becker head unit....
