Default Sell it or fix it?

Long and frustrating story made short, my mechanic told me the flywheel is bad when changing out my clutch. A new flywheel is $1,405 plus $300 in labor. Or I could sell my car and fork out the $2,000 difference I would lose on the sale. It's got 128K miles.

Thoughts?

Here's a flywheel, which is $400 cheaper, which would offset the labor costs to install the part, based upon your estimate. I would fix, then sell it.
Good Luck,

I wish that were the case, I already bought an OEM spec flywheel for the SLK320, the bolt holes don't line up. Buying an OEM flywheel will give me the same issue.
I bought an LUK DMF081 flywheel for the SLK320 since the application says they're interchangeable... well it does not fit the Crossfire. I repeat to any others who may try, it does NOT fit.

I would think you could find a flywheel from a wrecked xfire.

You sir, are a genius. Found a used one in good condition for $203. Guess I'm keeping it.

The original question was to sell it or fix it. You seem to have chosen to fix it. But will you keep it? I would. With the mileage that you have the car probably won't command a big dollar, and then deducting the cost of your repair will decrease the actual return even more. And once it's fixed and you have a good running car that you must like, why sell at all?

Wait wait wait!!!!

Dude, if the LUK didn't fit then you need the 05+ "CROSSFIRE" flywheel. DO NOT BUY AN SLK FLYWHEEL.

If anything man I have a C230 flywheel with the newer bolt pattern that's a tiny bit smaller but would push the V6 no problem I could sell to you on the cheap. The problem would be a clutch for it. Jim has the used one that came with the flywheel I bought.

Fu**. Jim and I were sure that the bolt pattern didn't change until 07...

It's all good. I'm getting a used flywheel and having my mechanic install it, all for under $500.

Nah man, I'm saying you're about to buy the wrong one again. Take a straight shot picture of your LUK bolt pattern.

I'll take the pic, but I'm getting one off a wrecked Crossfire, not an slk.

I understand there is a difference between the 04 and the 05 and later. There is a detailed "how to do clutch and flywheel"" on here some where with pictures step by step. it is close to two years old but well done.

Here you go Josh. Odd, I ordered the DMF081 and the flywheel isn't even labeled, just says DMF...

Sorry it took so long for me to get back, had a hell of a weekend.Looking at that bolt pattern it's the older. I'm still completely shocked why you have the updated pattern, but you need the newer style Flywheel from a newer Crossfire. I would honestly try 07+ since that's when we know for a fact the majority switched.

That's really odd, they're shipping out the used flywheel today from another '05 Crossfire. That SHOULD fit, lol
