I recently purchased a 2005 convertible. The top will not go up or down automatically. It will operate manually with no snags or hiccups. When trying to lower automatically once it is unlatched at the windshield and the panel in the trunk is in position all that happens when the switch is depressed is the windows go down. I have been to a Chrysler dealer that told me it had a broken wire, but they couldn't tell me which wire, another shop told me they couldn't communicate with the body controller. Looking for help in finding someone or some shop that can read this issue and repair? Thanks!

 

The most likely culprits at that stage of top operation are the cargo divider switch or the trunk latched switch.
The divider switch is on the drivers side where the partition rod locks into the holder slot.
The trunk latched switch is integrated into the latch assembly.

There is also a "top unlatched" switch up in the top frame just above where the passenger's ear would be.

 

I will check this out. Do you know if these switches are common open or closed?

Thanks ala_xfire! I've been busy and this was pushed to the back burner...printed the schematic and getting ready to see what is next!

 

I will be checking a friends out on Monday. As I read this post it occurred to me a clip lead clipped to the switch connectors for the rear divider and trunk latch may be a way to DX the issue. It would identify a bad switch.

 

Please be REAL CAREFUL when bypassing switches in such tightly designed areas. One slip, and a ripped top or bent bracket due to something getting caught in something its not supposed to get caught in, and it could get VERY EXPENSIVE. Just saying!

 

Understood. I will probably check with ohm meter from the PTCM to see if the switches and harness read correctly and if not ground the wire at the connector rather than the switch to see what works.

 

Was the issue resolved? My top won't go down either.
