As we all know American roads are definitely not the best in the world

I dont know if it comes from mine or it's normal, but driving in the city is a pain here in Oregon, every small hole, every defect of the road is felt x 10 from the inside, a feeling of driving in a very old car (no talking about the squeezing issue of the crossfire interior)

So anyone here (who drives without loud music ) do you have the same feeling or I am having issues with mine (2005 SRT-6)

When I got my SRT I fitted Koni adjustable shocks and new tires, the difference was amazing.
I had driven the car home 1,500 miles in non stop in agony with my son. The tires made a terrible noise and I changed them first, much quieter. Then I put in the Konis from NeedsWings, set on the softest setting these save my back and butt.

 

There is no such thing as "American Roads" ---- most roads are maintained by the local or state government.
To that end:
If the road seems bad and the ride uncomfortable, my experience has been that I'm either in Michigan or South Carolina.

Want nice roads? Move to Georgia - where we spend our (rather high) gasoline tax on ROADS!

 

Or, buy a Cadillac!

Well, I dont want to begin the conversation about the roads in the US it's endless


I am just asking is it normal to feel every single detail of the road so badly ?
It's the first time I own a 19' inch wheels car, so my first guess was that it was the reason (less rubber)


Now we have our friend onehundred80 who said that, the original tires and shocks are not that great

So before doing anything too expensive without result I would love to hear from other users, that's all

 

The SRT does have more robust suspension than the N/A's, I noticed that when Jeff let me drive his SRT a few weekends ago.

Of course, compared to my Ranger Edge pickup, the Roadster rides like a dream.....

 

Keep an eye on your tire pressure and maybe run them a pound or two less than required. When I bought mine, the dealer had the tires at 50 psi and the thing rode like a rock. After a week or two, I finally checked the pressure and lowered them to the recommended setting and it rode much better - and that was on old, mismatched tires. Once I got my Mich tires, the ride got even smoother ... but still much stiffer than anything else I own. The new tires also greatly reduced the road noise on most types of roads. There are some types of roads that are noisier than others.

I never drove a non SRT, I hope I will have the chance to, so I could compare

 

I already checked the tire pressure, it's always at recommended settings :-)

My feeling is I dont know if it's a normal thing, if it's only related to the SRT. It's my first sports car so I guess i will need to find someone in the Area with a Crossfire

My tires still have a long way to go so I guess I will have to be patient and deal with it

 

My roadster rides much more comfortably than my SRT6. The SRT6 is almost uncomfortable after an hour or two, while I have driven the roadster from MI to FL. For both cars: the wide tires tend to grab truck ruts and pull side to side, and the short wheel base results in some pogo-stick motion. But, heck, they are sports cars and too much fun to worry about a little discomfort.


Now, you want a nice ride, try out a newer Audi A6. I own a couple A4s and one A6 and they all ride nicer than the Crossies, but not as much fun.

 

Buy a plane ticket to Knoxville, TN in October - gonna have dozens of Crossfires at the fall dragon - I'm sure you can drive one of them.

Hell, one guy loaned me one of his for a day so I couild attend a small get-to-gether in North Georgia last month (after my car was totaled and before I got the new one...)

 

This like so many of the threads on here, this one got sidetracked by wanabe comedians. My answer to your problem, is the same one I had, noise and could feel every little bump or gravel. I changed tires, I got Hankook Standard size. All the problems are gone now. Very quite, smooth ride, and even better on the butt.

 

I have always had Hankook and have never had any of those issues. Some friends have commented on the quality of the ride and that is with stock shocks. I probably will go to Konis as my butt gets bonier with age! LOL

I have owned two srt6s . The first was stock rode fine but very loud tire noise on the highway. Very stiff seats, my butt hurt.
Now I have a heavily modded srt with eibach springs and adjustible connis, and my butt is killing me after an hour of cruising. Also I think the seats are made for a Kentucky Derby jockey ( I am 5'8" 225 lbs.) Snug is a kind word. I think the seat foam is petrified to rock.
But I still love the thrust of this little roller skate.

Boy do I agree. Next week I'm going to have the driver's seat interior foam completely replaced, and have the bolsters cut back about 1/2 inch where the removed 1/2 inch is replaced with a much softer foam. then I plan on losing 20 pounds to complete the "reupholstery" project LOL. Did the Konis soften things up like the did for 180?

 

there are a few things that could be done ,but first let me say, there were quite a few crossfires at the Tail of the Dragon and i don't remember anyone saying they had a bad or uncomfortable ride some drove over 100 miles to get there ,drove a 100 or so while there and thousands back home.
is the srt a rough ride somewhat, one fix is to chang to smaller rims like 17's , a 255/40-17 rear and 215/50-17 front would equal what is on the car in 18's and 19's. in height and width.. another way is to install limited springs on the srt. Personally I like the way it rides. jim
