Last week it was found that my fuel rail was losing pressure. Cranked for a long time before start. Went from 60 pounds to 15 as soon as the engine shut down. The repair shop said it was the check valve in the new pump they put in 7 months ago. Replaced the pump under warranty. I've read in a few places in this forum where folks said the filter check valve kept the pressure in the fuel rail, but if so why did the shop replace the pump? They didn't replace the filter. The problem is fixed.

The filter has the pressure regulator in it not a check valve.

Ah, but there's a check valve in the pump that keeps pressure in the fuel rail after engine shut down then? They replaced the pump under warranty for the fuel rail pressure loss.

Glad it is running again, did they charge you 'labor' to replace the pump under warranty? If they didn't, they are a reputable business.

No. They warranted the pump AND labor for 36 months. The pumps only have a 12 month warranty from the manufacturer. The manager there, Karl, is our generation. He made a point to mention it's not how newer generations seem to do business. Works on a handshake and his word. Replaced pump same day, handed me the keys with a smile. Problem fixed.
