Cool Hesitate, Bucking and Jerking

I believe that either my fuel pump or my fuel filter needs to be replaced? While driving back from NY in August, after cruising along on the Interstate, let of the gas for a slow down, press on gas for a speed up, car would hesitate, like it needed a second for the gas to be injected? This has continued off and on since I've been back.
Then today coming back from the Doctors, taking off from stop light, car bucked and jerked taking off, I thought it was going to stall out. Push in clutch applied gas revved up and took off. This happened about a mile from home, no problems the rest of the way. It is the 1st time it has been that bad. Any help in pointing me the right way would be appreciated? Any chance the CPS could be going?

Dennis

Question Re: Hesitate, Bucking and jerking

George,
Car has almost 80,000 on it and I bought it with 68, 000 2 years ago. I don't have a code reader, but will run up to auto parts store fore a read. And let you know.

I had similar symptoms when my throttle plate got jammed last week, so it could be the throttle or throttle body causing the problem. My engine revs just kept surging every second or so.

It rained all day yesterday, so I couldn't get the codes check. Did it this morning, there are no codes being displayed? Almost 80,000 miles. And it only does it on occasion, seems like if I goose it real hard and then let off. It will stubble and then hesitate and then seems to run fine.
Next step?

Crank shaft position sensor will cause those symptoms as well. Eventually, it won't run at all if it is your problem.

Afraid that just this one time you might be wrong. D.J. Tighe is tighed1. ( unless, of course, I am wrong )

Ok, my bad. Sorry tight1. But the question still remains, any suggestions other than throwing parts at it? I have a spare CPS, due to some one on the lists suggestion. I guess I could just drive it until something fails.
