Default Gear selector is moving... AGAIN

Well as the title says we know what that usually means.. I broke another motor mount.. for the 3rd time..

So I've tried doing the cable method using I believe 1/8" cable and some ties and wrapped it maybe 4 times around the driver side motor mount and used some of those cable locking bolt loop deals.

I've looked under the car momentarily just the see any visuals and the cable is actually severed like the engine's torque was actually able to stretch and shear the cable... I probably in hindsight I may have had them too tight.

Anyway the only other methods that i have been able to find using this forum and other car forums is either "chaining" the engine down (sounds like a PITA) or I think one time I found a picture of someone that had some sort of "Bar" that went across from the right shock tower mount and bolted into the superchargers lift holes and continued to the passenger shock tower mount.

Maybe with some bushings in place would still allow some flex but keep it rigid.

Replacing these motor mounts are a HUGE PITA!!

ALSO I've used the search and cannot find a how to on replacing the TRANS mount. everyone always talks about the motor mounts.

Anyway thanks! hopefully will get a solution to this annoying problem

Most OEM mounts are captive after the GM debacle in the late 60s. Are these OEM ?

they are the OEM style mounts that are liquid filled. Got under car breifly before I have to go to work. It seems the mounts aren’t leaking and I don’t see any obvious abnormalities.

Next thing to to check I think would be the trans mount and the flex discs on the drive shaft... not sure if those would cause engine movement but maybe.
