Default Define crayon smell!

Is the crayon smell many describe in our Crossfires a very sweet smell......sort of like someone spayed a strong sweet air freshener into the air vents? I asked the last owner of he did this to my vents to cause this smell and he said it was like this when he got it. I sprayed alcohol into my vents and the smell went away for a month, then returned. Not really sure what crayons or burnt crayons smell like. This is very sweet smelling. Comments appreciated.

Think back...
Growing up in Maryland, going to Elementary School in the 1950's, remember those oversized Crayola Crayons?
That's the smell being referred to.
The smell comes from the glue used to attach the liner to the roof in coupes.
I actually find it rather pleasant...

As Trcky-Dck said here a few years back if you want to get rid of the smell you should try to date older girls.

Not so, my roadster has the smell worse than my coupe ever did. And I have replaced the headliner in my coupe and the smell hasn't changed. When I had the headliner out and scraping and cleaning off the glue, the smell was not here.

Woody said it was the roof glue, others said it was the carpet glue and frankly I have never smelt it.
Europe has very strong laws against adhesives made from petroleum products, and use water based adhesives when possible, maybe that is what it is. Maybe it comes from the seats.
I used 3M 77 spray glue on my roof liner and there is no smell now.

I agree, thoroughly cleaned the glue off and used 3m to glue the new headliner on . The smell hasn't changed.

I've heard that Mercedes have this smell as well and a Mercedes owner checked out my car one time and actually commented "Yup, smells just like Mercedes do" leading me to think seats? He mentioned it's the leather but I can't confirm... Anyone else notice this about the two Makes of vehicles?

My 6 year old Mercedes interior does not have the crayon smell my 2, 14 year old Crossfire interiors have.

My interior has a smell as do all cars but it is not a crayon smell. Three months before I can enjoy that smell while driving it again.
