crankshaft or camshaft position sensors
another thing that can happen unexpectedly and there are no warnings or means to detect it, is a crankshaft or camshaft sensor failing. and the symptoms are erratic, to make thing even worse.
what i have heard suggesting is just to replace both now and keep the spares in the car in case any fails again. this way at least you have them handy and just need to replace them in case of failure.
removal of the camshaft sensor is easy and is at the reach of the hand at the front, but the other is not, so here is the routine:

and also make sure that you get bosch brand.

battery
now, lets talk about the battery. the instruments cluster does not show anything if it is in critical condition (like the oil pressure that shows a red light if low), so if it is critically low you dont know, and anytime you may be left in the dark. but there are ways to prevent this, with a few things that dont cost too much. the first is a thing that you get for pennies and plugs into the cigarette lighter. it tells you the volts of the battery. when you turn the key to the 1st step, it will show the volts. if below 12.5 you need to charge it. if not it may fail. but still is convenient to learn more.

i found 2 things that provide all that is needed to keep the battery in the best possible shape: with the tester you get volts, CCA, and SOH. CCA is cold crank amperes, and SOH is state of health. (to learn more about them there is a thread that i started here-see last post):

and to charge the battery and keep it in a condition even better that what is expected, the charger mentioned is all that you need.
the volts tell you the very basic figure you need to learn, but still, to be sure better learn CCA, because even if shows an apparently good figure, it may not be fine. see this video: and then until you get the SOH you are completely sure of its condition.
now you know about the battery condition. but what if you need to charge it? then you have the charger mentioned. with it you not only can charge to the known limits automatically, but you can desulfate it so it improves its capacity beyond the nominal figure by pressing "restore" (it stops automatically). and also you learn a figure that tells you if it really is improving the condition of your battery: it reads internal resistance (IR), (shown as res in the screen). so you read this before you charge and then afterwards and you see that the figure is lower: this is telling you that this thing really desulfates ! i havent seen any place that can prove that their chargers desulfate by providing means to check it, even less, figures.
the thing is, that now you know the condition of your battery and how to keep it in best shape.
