Great work. I did carbon fiber vacuum bagging to make racing catamarans for Gkat in the mid 80's. Also built carbon parts for Porsche and Nissan in Imsa. Also built 5 BMW M-1 bodies for the Darden Red Lobster IMSA car in the mid 80'. Wish I still had those molds. Made the first 930 slant nose carbon fiber fenders in America for Porsche. About a add on hard top...my first TC I was broad sided by someone doing about 75 running the red light at the USF golf course in Tampa. 10/1/1995. The first thing that happend is the hard top sheared off and bounced off my head about 6 times as I was spining in the intersection. Last separate hard top I will own.

I am also unsure of what you are doing. Are you cutting off the roof section or is this a cover??

Wow. It's very simple. He is building a Crossfire racecar. You ADD lightness. Look up Colin Chapman. For every steel part you remove and replace with a carbon fiber part at 50-90% lighter...your car will go faster. For a race team weight savings is usually cheaper than horsepower.

I haven't made any covers. The metal is gone. Along with door scuff plates, the ledge trim behind the seats, windshield frame, rear fascia, spoiler, spoiler bracket and motor. Also headlights and bumper. All of that is now carbon fiber. The carpet and foam on the driver and passenger were 17 lbs each. I took off 37lbs from the trunk. The trunk bottom is kevlar fiber now. I have materials for a center console but I'm doing a phone slot and 2 cup holders. Next are the doors however my car is red so I selected hybrid carbon kevlar fibers fabric as it comes in red. I should be doing the hood just I want plexiglass to reveal the mercedes engine cover underneath. It seems heavy though.

The fenders are done. The original 9.8lbs for one side to 2.4lbs in carbon kevlar red. It would be 14 lbs loss, but I removed the washer reservoir and components while the right fender was off. Lost another 2.5lbs ( empty). I'm putting the race stickers back on. I need them to hide some imperfections on the fenders.

Great job! Remember to get out of the shop to get fresh air every once in a while. Comes from YEARS of making fiberglass and carbon race parts.

Oh, I made headlights again. Version 3 is done with headlamps same shape as ours. It gets installed inside the stock box or assembly. Mine is cf except the bottom since it has adjustment turning bolts. Here it is (high and low and day time running lights)

I'm waiting on a drl light to finish the top of my light assembly but I can post it here tomorrow

I'm going to make another drag day once it's down to 2800 lbs. Youre welcome to come. Maybe I can get 12.99 instead of 13.5. As I did in 2010 with 1 shot of 75 Nos. Now it's two shots 75+50. I have headers, etc.
To go that light I'm going with a lighter idea of a rear bumper. Instead of a cf copy. I will put on a shell and use as a bumper. I picked one out to buy and modify to fit the taillights. It's a bit wide, I will have to change the corners. Mclaren 600lt.

Pic of headlight prototype 3. With these mini Crossfire headlights I discovered. Its in our plastic assembly. The front side, top are cf. I Did something new where I hardened the cf with straight up clear coat. It was innovating to make cf that fast but it wouldn't let me cut out the opening slots to place the new lights well at all. So I outlined the lights with a hard trim and covered the headlight front with a clear lens, to see what it would look like. I ordered the DRLs strips to make the bar as amber and blinkers. It worked, no News I have been using DRLs for 3 years now. I did not secure the DRL because my headlight prototype 4 lost another 1 lbs. Now finished and installed at 2.6 lbs. each. ( oem 7+lbs). I decided to go for it.

News, I'm trying to get to 2800lbs. I can say that I don't have much of an interior anymore. I'm trying to keep the ceiling liner and Tesla screen. I decided that I'm going with a lighter idea of a rear bumper. Instead of a cf copy. I will put on a forged cf shell and use as a bumper. I picked one out to buy and modify to fit the taillights. It's a bit wide, I will have to change the corners. The license plate and truck are very close to the right spots. It's the Mclaren 600lt. I can't buy those taillights to match that bumper as I added another race car to my car racing just now. This new car and headlight change definitely is causing delays.

What, who put this cf hood here? It's kind of a smart design raw top 1.5" longer at the headlights. Built-in eyebrow with Aston Martin vents slots. Looks to be 10 lbs to me... lol 😆🤣 I need plexiglass to show the engine through. I'm going to get if from the corvette zl1 or that ever edition it is.

Longer for custom lighting

Lights prototype 4 complete. 2.6 lbs. APP controlled. I tell it to be amber or high beam etc. The car is running team decals at the moment. Just forget that you saw the mouth full of teeth, thx.

I'm getting better at this. I was able to sand this hood entirely by machine without burning through. The OEM hood is 50.5lbs. This hood was 8lbs before fiberglass framing, hardware, vents and heatshield. Once it drys I will weigh it again.

Needs vents, wet sanding and clear. Not sure if I'm transferring the stock chrysler wing here of sanding this one into shape.

I have two weeks to finish this and a door than it's autocross time. I'm depending on weight loss and a couple of new nitrous controllers to make up .900 sec on a 55 sec lap.

Heat shield 6 pounds
