Disassembly of center console arm rest lid
So the latch on my center console lid has some issues, some pieces have broken about the latching mechanism. Anyone have directions on disassembly of the lid to allow you to get to the latching mechanism? I've gotten the center silver trim off, but need further disassembly guidance.

Download the service manual
it can be found online on this forum.
looking for the answer within the manual will be the best thing you can do.

Thanks, yes I checked the manual. The latching mechanism for the rear center console lid is what I need access too, and that is not discussed or outlined in the manual. I'll need help from someone who has taken apart the lid for the repairs I'm looking to make.
These parts have to be apart to assemble the latch.
It may be that you will have to buy the correct colour base on eBay and fix your silver trim to it if the silver colour is wrong or not as good as yours is.
Frankly I think buying a replacement part is the best idea as that spring hinge would be a nightmare to reassemble.

I have the lid in my hand and from what I see there are the screws holding the silver panel on. Does the part split apart after this panel is removed? The base is made from two parts, can they be pried apart or are the glued together?

Thanks for replying, I've been a fan since I bought the car and found the forum in 2011, Take care.
Yes, you take out those screws you are mentioning and the silver center trim piece does come off, but the "base pieces" do not come apart any further. I tried carefully prying apart the remaining pieces part, thinking they were perhaps "snapped" together, but wasn't feeling it would end well with much more pressure. Too as you mentioned I believe the remaining parts are in fact glued together. I did do a quick search on Car-Parts for a used part, and as you mentioned conditions and color matching can be tricky. I'll search ebay see what I come up with.

Could you tell us what the matching paint is please?
I am just talking about the medium slate gray or dark slate gray portion of the lid. People have had success with the SEM or Colorbond paint. Those two paints only work when you spray the entire panel, they are not good for touch ups because they do not match the factory paint. I had told him to use the same silver piece.

Remember that the 2004 models had a shiny silver paint and the later models had a semigloss silver paint.
