From the information I have seen, the earliest registered serial number for a Crossfire ends in 00041. That means that the first 40 units were all testing/demo vehicles never intended to be released to the public.
Some of you may remember years ago, I owned "The Crossfire Shop" where I sold used parts from wrecked Chrysler Crossfires. I would buy vehicles through Copart, ship them to Ohio, and part them out.
I remember one listing that I ran across on Copart (I still regret not buying it) for a 2004, Sapphire Blue Crossfire coupe. It had minor damage, drivers side front fender and door were lightly side swiped.
The serial number on that vehicle ended in 00006, the 6th vehicle off the production line. Never intended to be registered, it must have been used by a Chrysler executive and somehow made it into public hands.
No idea who purchased it or what became of it, hopefully someone realized what it was and repaired it instead of scrapping it. Somewhere in my files I have copies of the auction pictures and serial number plate.
I'm thinking the Crossfire you're regretting not buying is VIN 4X000022 in Ohio salvage yard at the time.
I also have a photo of VIN dashboard plate for 4X000013 that I saw displayed at the Chicago Autoshow in February of 2003.

Nope, the one I saw at auction was definitely not in Ohio or I would have certainly purchased it (shipping cost). It was serial number 00006. All of my old computer hard drives are still in storage back in Ohio so I don't have access to them. I will have to look through my portable drives and see if by chance I transferred info over to them or not. We moved to Louisiana 3 years ago and still haven't moved everything here including my 2004 Crossfire that has been in storage for years.
