Default Check Engine Light

Hello;

My check engine light has started coming on in my 2004 Coupe once my fuel gage nears the red zone on the dial. I've had the car over a year and this is a new 'glitch'. It goes away - usually in a day or two - after filling the tank past the halfway point. I am aware that the gas cap does suggest this light will come on if the cap is loose, but I do and undo mine to see if the light will go out and it does not. Do I need a new cap? The light being on for a few days is extremely annoying! (...and if there is any permanent way to shut it off, I'm open to that too.)
Thanks,
Brendan

The next time it comes on, go to Autozone and have them read the code - THEN we can help.
