Sirius Add On
Getting an '06 Roadster Limited. Wondering as I would like to add a Sirius add on unit that will play through the FM radio. Where is everyone putting the Sirius unit, I cannot seem to find a good place for it.
I have mine hard-lined into the back of my AM unit so there isn't any static. Granted I can't take it inside but it's better than listening to static if you don't have a clean station to transmit from. It's really a hassle in my area because I'm in a tweener area between Tampa and Ft. Myers stations, you obviously won't know until you get it but it's the only option if you're using the factory radio.
Also, for some reason the newer Sirius units won't transmit via 87.9 FM, they all start from 88.1. I have two units that are the same model, one about 3 months older than the other and they start at 87.9 and 88.1, respectively. 87.9 is crystal clear over the radio from FL to NC (road trip), but since you can't use it on the newer ones I found myself changing the frequency too often and went the hard-line option. Anyone know why they don't transmit via 87.9 anymore?

My first sirrus was remote unit that I had running through the radio channel on the vehicle and Boom box style in the house. I worked ok in the car but if your trip was very long, you would get static and need to change the station. I then put in a flip screen navigation with sirrus receiver in it and it works trouble, static, free. It costs more to go direct with the receiver but if you spend alot of time listening, it's worth it.
I have mine mounted on the drivers side of the center console. I used the visor bracket and just slid it in the gap between the two pieces of the console cover.

I still need to reroute the power wire to come in from behind.

Before I switched to XM, (another story), I had a Clarion unit mounted on the dash. It was their first generation of sirius radios so the hideaway box was a bit large. The good news was that the controller matched the dark grey on the dash very well. I had it mounted on the left hand side of the steering wheel near the headlight switch. It did not have the new features available now but it was very understated in appearance. The illumination could be set to green to match the Crossfire. It was hard to spot from outside the car so I did not feel nervous about parking with the top down.
Install was very simple, just power and ground and the antenna connector.
There's still loads of them on ebay, just look for SRSIR-001. I still have the old one if someone wants it.

There is a bracket that is available to mount a sat receiver here is the link.
