You got two sets of NAV CDs radmanly?? Interestingly, the West region CD used to generate the ISO image is the black one which was in the NAV unit of my car when I got it. It has the A 193 827 02 59 part number on it. The East region disc was a copy sent to me by forum member crossfirefun and, while I can't say for sure that the original was a black disc, I assume it was. The copy works fine in my NAV unit.

What bothers me now is that you are not able to use the discs burned from these ISO images, yet apparently ShawnQ can. Unless Shawn has not actually tested them in his NAV unit yet.

That is something I'd like more feedback on - whether or not the discs burned from the ISO images are useable in the NAV units. A simple download and burn is not the true test!!! They work for me, but that's not what's important - I want them to work for YOU!

I have four CDs total; 2 blue and 2 black. These are from my Limited coupe which I bought used (my SRT-6 does not have NAV). The blues don't work at all so I don't know why they're there. Perhaps the previous owner damaged them somehow and the blacks were replacements.

While it's true that I couldn't get the downloaded isos to work, that could be my fault. I burned them under Linux with cd-record. I have a Windoze machine with Nero Express. I'll try that and see if it works any better.

I was able to make straight copies of my black CDs and those work OK. I'm putting the copies in the car and saving the originals.

I had some lady talking to me today as my car told me how to get home.

I have tried them, and they worked. However, I only use the West (TX). I inserted the East and it seemed to load it fine, but not sure if it actually works.

I will mess with it more later just to make sure.

The first time I tried it, it didn't work. I tried to use Windows to copy the file straight from the download to a CD. I'm not sure what an 'iso image' is, but it wouldn't work that way. I had to download Nero 7 day trial, THEN burn it...and all is well. I will double check later, but from what I can tell, mine WORK.

Thanks,
SQ

I attached a photo of the nav CD cases. After looking at them, I think the blue ones are for Jeeps. The used car salesman I bought the Limited from probably didn't recognize the difference (I bought the car from a MB/BMW dealer) and just gave me everything in his desk. If you own a Jeep and need some nav CDs, I've got 'em.

ShawnQ, thanks for the confirmation.

radmanly, if I still had my Linux box I'd have written instructions for that OS as well, had it worked. I have a test to do with my Mac tomorrow.

Burned my 5th CD on the mac. Used the latest file and still no luck. Damn. Shows up as a complete iso file on the CD, but the Nav unit will not recognize it.

Try a different brand of cdr. Each a really generic/cheapy one or a quality one like a Verbatim cdr. You should notice a different either way. I've had instances where a Sony cdr wouldn't work in a system but a cheap/generic one did and vice versa. Good luck.

You're doing it wrong - you do not want the final CD to just have the ISO file on it. The data files need to be extracted from the ISO and then burned to disc. I've been able to get Toast to do this but the resulting CD was still not working in the NAV unit and I have a theory abouit it. I'm off to test it right now........give me a few minutes and I'll report back.

Damn.

I tried burning using different settings on the Mac and it just is not readable in the NAV unit. My PC shows all the correct files are on the discs, it just does not work. This is frustrating because these days most all files are cross platform compatible - I even have my Mac and my Windows PC networked together and can open the same Photoshop files, QuarkXpress files, Illustrator, Word, Excell, etc on both machines. I know there are often corruption issues when putting certain Mac fonts onto a Windows OS but they show up as zero byte files. These NAV files all look to be intact at first glance.

Never say die!!! I'm not giving up!!!

Mike-in-Orange... I've got the ISOs up on my commercial space now (BIG Pipe).

They can be found in the Sticky thread in the SRT6 section on documentation... along with a bunch of other goodies.

I also have a small link pointing back to this thread.

Cheers!

I really appreciate all the efforts to make the CDs available to folks without them. I finally took the approach with my dealer that, since I have the remainder of the 3/36 new car warranty and it covers the radio and the Nav feature doesn't work, then I want to make a warranty claim.

it must have worked because they called me back and said the set was ordered under warranty and would be in next week.

Now that's a better problem resolution than the luggage challenge. My backside still hurts from that one. (inventory reduction cars not eligible blah, blah, blah...)

When you get the CDs, let us know what the publication date is. The consensus here seems to be that they haven't been updated since '04. I hope you can prove that wrong.

Dowloaded and burned the West with Nero. Haven't had the chance to mess with it much, but it looks like it worked when I loaded it into the car. I need to download the manual so i can figure it out more and see if Louisiana is considered west or east?. Thanks for the help. I didn't even know my car had the NAV until today.

From all who have been without Crossfire NAV CD's a BIG Yeee Haaa for posting them. For those having troubles with the CD's, it seems there might be a problem with the two ISO images located on the MMZ_TimeZone Documentation thread. The two ISO images located there (East Coast, West Coast) are only 182mb each in size. If you burn a set of CD's from this distribution, the CD's will activate load in the NAV system, but at some point you will get a "Error reading CD" message displayed. I successfully used the two ISO files located on the Mike-In-Orange thread and those two files burned and ran with no problem, each being over 600mb in size. I used just standard CD-R pre-formatted disks. I also have a Sony Lightscribe CD/DVD burned that I used to add a custom laser etching image of my car on the front side of the CD. Sweet! So if you are having problems, make sure the ISO images are over 600mb before doing any burning.

It is because they are compressed and need to be decompressed correctly before they are burned. I used a free trial version of NERO.
