Default Need help picking out new sub / amp please! Desperate!

Hey guys, I don't really know much about car audio / stereo / whatever equipment.

Basically, I want a LOT of bass (okay, so i'm an 18 year old teenager, what did you expect?) in my car. I figured that since it is a small car, a small sub would be plenty loud enough.

I have a cheap headunit (Pioneer DEH-4800MP). I would really rather not replace this but if I have to, I have to.

Do I need to upgrade the amp? I was thinking of putting about a 10'' sub in the trunk, but i'm not sure if I need a new amp or the 10'' would be big enough / loud enough / etc.

Basically, can anyone recommend me some products? I do not know which brands are good / etc.

I also would like to know exactly how hard it would be to install all this jazz.. I would rather not drill into anything if possible.

Also, one last thing! I do not want to spend a lot of money, not necessarily the cheapest route.. just somewhat cheap!

Thanks if you can help me!

look in your local paper for ads where people are trying to get rid of old equip. or they need cash, just make sure that it works before take it home.

a 10" sub in a sealed box would be fine, also don't buy anything from wal-mart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was looking at an 8 inch tube with amp from circuit city..

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Bazoo...oductDetail.do

I have no idea how it would sound but i know it comes with an amp and its 99 bucks... I am not getting this at this point but i found it in my research.. maybe it will help.. i liked that it didnt take up a lot of space.. and wasnt a huge box... i need all the trunk space for shopping bags

hi,

in reference to the bazooka bass tube: i had the 100W one installed in my crossfire over the summer (originally installed in my 99 eclipse). it's definitely a step up from the stock system (base crossfire). itll fill your car with enough bass, but it didn't give all that much trunk space as one would expect. You also need to purchase the bass tube harnass if you don't want the tube to be flying all over the place. The straps just aren't enough to be holding the tube when you're driving around.

But if you want something to really have some punch, get a sealed box. I currently have the sealed fiberglass box with a 10" alpine sub and amp. It hits HARD. And the bass is really tight, so it doesn't take away from your highs and mids. If you can, spend the extra cash and get something you can really enjoy. Also, on the plus side, the box fits perfectly into the left side of the trunk, without utilizing any real trunk space. Just my two sense.

Oh, and i had crutchfield install everything. I asked them not to drill anything because the box covers the jack. So they velcroed it REALLY tight.

you know if a person could not have their seat all the way back they might be able to fit a 8" or maybe even a 10" small truck box behind one of the seats and they could mount the amp behind the other seat.

or if you really wanted to get crazy have a car audio shop install a couple of 10"'s behind the seats in the wall I'm sure it would take them a couple of days to get it perfect but it would be hidden and it would be bad ***

This would be difficult because of the gas tank and the use of structural boron bracing in that "wall"

For all those that are unfamiliar with it......boron (tradename Usibor from Arcelor steel) is the same stuff they make inner door braces from to minimize the damage caused by side impact. The stuff will just about shatter like glass before it bends an inch!

Honestly, I upgraded my door speakers (Alpine SPR-17S) and added an amp (Alpine MRP-F250) and it fills my car quite nicely. Granted you need to have a decent equalizer on the head unit to get the most out of it. I had the 4800MP you have right now and that equalizer is absolutely terrible and confusing as hell.

Since I've changed to a Pioneer Z1 I've gotten more out of my speakers and amp due to better equalizer customization. I might not have to get subs anymore because I still need to get my rear subs/mids rewired into my system. Right now I only have the door speakers wired and the sound is great.

I dont know how long of a drive it would be for you to get to chicago, but there is a big car audio show at mccormick place in downtown chicago. They are advertising super cheap prices on name brands. This might be worthwhile if you don't mind taking a road trip.

I have a 10" eclipse sub for sale, somewhat used. It's in a box right now, probably too big for the xfire. If you want it, PM me an offer. I could email a pic if you like. I was thinking ebay, but that site's a crapshoot. Too many people looking to screw you.

personally i wouldnt bother with an 8" sub as it wont be pushing enough air to give you any deep low down bass.

i changed my head unit to a pioneer dvd, did the 220uf 100v non polarised capacitor mod(found on this forum) to my front speakers cutting the bass and allowing for only mid and high, and then put a 1600 watt active 12" vibe black air 2 in the trunk.
sounds awsome with lots of low end bass in the back but clear vocals in the front. sweet!

Iam running the high end old school Mb quart 6.5 components in the doors and Mb Quart 6x9s in custom enclosures in the wall behind my seat. Iam using a 10 inch Infinity Kappa series sub running at 2ohms in a Pro Box subwoofer box. I must say the Infinity Kappas are the cleanist sub I have heard in a long time. Everyone should check them out.
