Default Possible idea to mount Drive+Play LCD?

Hey.. I just ordered a complete center console from eBay.. $300. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ksid=p3907.m32)

Since mine was wrecked (scratched, mirror switch broken, etc.) I figured it was a sound investment. I was getting sick every time I went into my XF

Anyways.. I took apart the LCD of the Drive+Play to make it thinner, and I got it down to a great size...

I want to mount it in the spot where it tells us if the passenger airbag is off.. is that a seperate piece I can take out? I'd have two after I get my new console and I could try and fab something up.. I think it'd be a great location for it, and it fits nearly perfectly. I know that the whole point of the LCD is to "keep your eyes on the road" but there isn't really that many places to mount it.. let alone mount it flush.

Anyways, My console comes in monday, but I have to work.. and tuesday I have class. I'll keep you guys posted on what goes on, during my busy schedule! I think the LCD screen would look awesome in that spot.. if I can make it fit!

Shoot me a PM and take a look at our center console thread in interior, I am sure we can work something out, also how much do you want for the old console?

Not really.. since it's so old I picked up another one on eBay for 30$.. not bad.

Also, I REALLY love the interface / controller of the drive+play, it's nearly identical to the iPods.. it really can't be beat..

That's quite interesting actually. Just curious - did the wire that comes out of the LCD stay attached to the guts you removed from the casing?

The trick would be that the panel you want to use is not flat and the LCD is... I wonder if the front panel of the LCD could be inlaid into the dash panel to give you the fit and finish?

I have a Karmann badge on that panel but the idea of moving my Drive + Play LCD down there sounds really good if the LCD doesn't require major fooling with to get it looking factory. I already have an extra passenger air bag panel to play with...

There is no wire shown in the pictures because I took it off.. it is REALLY easy to take apart / take the wire off and plug back in. Basically you just take off the back part.. cut away the rubber plastic where the wire and the LCD meet.. and go from there... not much involved at all.

I get my new console Monday.. so I will have some playing around with to do. Also am talking to someone who does custom fiberglass work to see how hard it would be.. Am reallly looking forward to this!!

Sounds like you have a great start there. Another idea is that you should be able to relocate the air bag off indicator somewhere else. Shouldn't be too hard either.

Keep us in the loop... Cheers!
