Default Amp mounting question

Does anyone know offhand if either a JL Audio 500/1 or 300/4 (same size amp) will fit in the stock location under the passenger floor mat?

Thanks.

Conversely, does anyone have the measurements of the stock amp?

Sorry I can't give you the answer, but my JLHD750/1 is mounted to a piece of mdf, behind the drivers seat. I have my seat as far back as you can go, and still recline a little, And I never even see it. The board is behind the carpet. How big are those amps?

The slash amps are a bit bigger. HD750/1 is about 10.75 by 8.25 while mine are 13.4 by 9.25. They might fit behind the seat but then Id have to pull the carpet so Im hoping I can just mount one or both in the floor board for simplicity.

And to prevent thieves from finding it.

I didn't ask for it in that location when installed. I didn't specify either. I thought they were going to put it under the passenger seat. if they won't fit on the floor board, basic install of an amp, is really not that expensive.

My 250/2 and 500/1 are both mounted to MDF and concealed behind a panel in the boot. With a simple piece of carpeted masonite, it looks stock.

there is alot of room behind the side panels inthe trunk area. have seen others use this space for amps.

there is definitely a LOT of room behind the trunk panels, but i don't think the slash series will fit these areas. I'd consider behind the seats, if not there then maybe a false floor is in order.

edit: the stock amp is VERY small, about the size of a HU, definitely not as big as the slash amps.

They did take an extra hour, during my install, trying to run wires, and mounting the amp. I guess our cars are a pain to take apart? But still didn't charge any extra. You really can't see mine at all where it is, unless you really know what your looking for.

FWIW it is possible to fit two JL Audio amps in the place of the stock amp. I used a JL stacking kit, drilled screws into the metal bracket that the factory amp goes to, and cut back the carpet a little bit so it would go up and over the amps. I lost a bit of floor space, but seeing as I am usually driving alone anyways, no worries on my part. Now if somebody breaks in, they most likely will never guess where my amps are.

Just happen to have an extra that I'm going to mount in the back to power the rear speakers.

Has anyone taken out the original amplifier and in It's place mounted an Jl Audio HD or an Alpine PDX amplifier? Not to use the oem wires, just to save space. Thanks.

Mr. Troy... see my last post, two up from your post.

I mounted not one, but two, JL Audio slash amps where the factory amp would have been. I do not think it would be a problem to mount a PDX or an HD because they (at least the PDX for sure) is much smaller than a single Slash amp.

I've seen the scematics for the oem amplifier and it seems some cables are for things other than powering the speakers like control module, antilock brakes and data link conector, at least that is what the audio diagram that I found on this forum says, is this true or can I disconect and take out the oem amplifier to fit a PDX one? Thanks again.

Sorry, I thought you were asking if it would physically fit. I have no idea on the wiring.

To be sure, check the JLAudio.com site for specs on the Slash series to make sure they are comparable, but Im pretty sure the PDX are smaller and the HD are about the same (although they might be thicker).

I did have to cut my carpet back a bit and fold it up... you can't tell by looking that it's been done, but I did lose a few inches of floorspace. If you frequently have passengers, that might be a concern.

Good luck with it.

Default Would an 8 W x 30 L x 4 H cover it?

Here is a picture of the false floor lifted to reveal the 4" deep compartment that I put in to hold travel stuff and recently re-purposed to hold some electronics. I installed a thermally controlled exhaust fan that moves 8 CFM if the space reaches 115 degrees. The link provided takes you to the page where these photos are located but there are several pages covering this install. The false floor wasn't too hard to do with a table saw, hammer, nails and a staple-gun and razor knife...
