Default Alarm & Remote Issues

So it go to leave my tennis club this morning after a match and the remote does not work. I have two remotes and one has worked intermittently since new. I would usually just have to open it up and move the batteries(new) around and then it would work. However this time I had the "good" remote that works every time except now. So my buddy takes me to the store and we pick-up a couple CR2025 batteries. Still does not work. "Alarm?" light is flashing on the dash but I decide to open the door with the key anyway. No alarm sound. Put the key in the ignition, start the car an go. I guess I should read the manual but is that how our alarm system works? I assume because I put the key in the ignition in fairly short time the alarm did not go off. But I though for sure it would go off when I opened the door. Anyways I get home and neither one of my remotes work now. Any ideas?
