Default Hello to you all...Please help if possible

Firstly i would like to say hello to everyone as i am new to this site...
I am the proud owner of a 2005 Convertible in the UK. I love the crossfire and find it the most reliable car ive had...Saying that, i have a problem and would be very greatful for any advise.

The other day i started my car and literally drove off as the thing fired up.
This caused the car to drive about 5 feet then die. The spoiler raised also. It started 2 more times but engine just died straight away. The car will no longer start.
I called out a mechanic and he checked the starter motor etc and thinks it maybe the immobiliser. When i turn the ignition key everything works perfectly with no power shortage. The car will just not tick over.

I have tried all the various techniques mentioned on here but seem to have no luck. I am really reluctant to take it to the main dealers as in the UK this really does work out expensive.

Any advise is welcomed.
Many thanks
BC

Not sure I understand. So, here goes...you started the car, and the car took off? So, was the car in gear? If I am wrong, sorry. But, this could be a crankshaft position sensor. Crank and no start. I would start there. About $45 over here...not sure on your end what the cost is. It is an easy fix...There is even a how-to on here. Maybe someone better than me can link that up for you. If not, use the search feature, and search for Crankshaft Position Sensor...good luck...

If I'm understanding your post correctly, you may start with having your battery checked - charged and load tested. Once that the battery is confirmed good, I would check for a bad RCM. If those two things check out fine, then you will have to get a better diagnoses.

Good luck, James

James,

Thanks for the reply mate.
The car weren't in gear so I'm not sure it it would be that. I am a complete novice when it comes to vehicle knowledge and repairs. I searched high and low and stumbled across the 'mystery no start' thread which sounds very much like it. I'm going to check in the morning. I've been looking up soldering techniques on YouTube and feel confident I'll be able to do it so I'm hoping that this is the problem and will save me plenty of money.
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again.

RCM usually will cut out when it gets hot...then the car will not start until it cools down. Does this to it just won't start at all. If it starts, idles rough and dies...cps might be the problem. Good luck. Both are easy fixes...

Gotta love YouTube for learning!

I put fake grass in my yard using YouTube. Looks like I knew what I was doing!

That's where I learned to solder too!

I see from your picture that you are follicly challenged like many of us and as You Tube is a favorite learning media for you, this may help.
Top Gear - Middle aged man wig test - BBC - YouTube

Remember laying a rug is like laying false grass, just use 3M (auto grade) double sided adhesive tape.

This is a little joke.

Firstly, i'd like to say a big thank you to everyone for the advice.

I have taken the RCM this morning. (tire pressure, oil, water etc is normally as far as ive gone, so this is an achievement already! haha)
As you can see, the solder in middle seems to look pretty bad so i am feeling confident this is the problem...I hope!
BUT as you can see from pic 3, ive been a bit clumsy and scratch the board. Is there a way of repairing this?

Thanks in advance

Yep. That's pretty bad. Bravo for you fixing it yourself!

The nick you made on the board is ok. Looks like plenty of connectivity still there. I wouldn't worry about it.

Not fixed yet brother!haha...

Ive been in the kitchen with the cheap soldering iron and cannot get the join to heat as the tip of the iron doesnt heat up and the sides are to thick. However, ive called a mate who hopefully is bringing his better bit of kit.

Fingers crossed

Also, I was looking only to do the 2 middle connecters (whatever their called) as they are the only ones that look bad, or would you say do all 3?

Ok ive done the RCM and it still hasnt solved the problem so its obviously something else.

I reconnected the battery and turned it over. It fire up and after 3 secs died.
I started it again and it lasted about 2 secs.
Started once more then start and die.
Now wont start

If i disconnect and reconnect it starts the process again.

All the electrics come on and the spoiller pops up

So confused??!@@

Do you have a spare key? If so, try to start it with the spare.
The chip inside the Fob may be damaged.
Have you been under the dash? As the halo wires may be disconnected or broken.
The car thinks you are trying to steal it and the immobilizer is kicking in.

This is a security problem, the dealer may be your only hope I'm afraid. It pains me to say that.

Really trying to hold out on the dealer but looks like im left with no option.
Just called Chrysler and they want £150 just for the diagnostic.

I still don't understand the spoiler coming up. Just an idea: charge the battery to a good level and see what happens when you try to start again.

Thanks for posting pics of RCM, they are some of the worst joints I have seen.

James

Just as a last ditch effort disconnect the body control module, look at the terminals and plug it back in. While you are there un plug and replug the others as well. Look at the grounds for this unit as well. In fact look at all the grounds on the car.
