Default Cant open car with keys

Hi there,

Yesterday I got into work and wen't out to the car about two hours later - got in just fine. Left work hours later and the keys didn't work (the lock/unlock buttons, or the physical key wouldn't unlock the car)

Replaced the batteries, no luck.

Did some searching around this site and popped my hood by using a ratchet wrench. Checked a few fuses (all fine) and tried to jump the battery (which I assumed wasn't dead because the lights/alarm started going off like crazy when I popped the hood)

I still couldn't get into the car.

Does anybody have a potential solution to this problem? I've seen some people around the boards who have been locked out of their cars but usually with a dead battery, that doesn't seem to be the case here...

Thanks

Jacob

I notice that you never answered the last problem you had, I hope that is not going to be the same outcome here. The last one was a problem with the serpentine belt. We like to know that the problem was solved, we learn and you learn.

If the key does not turn in the door then there must be a lock seizure problem or the key was replaced when the ignition lock was changed without updating the door lock.

If the fob does not work it may be caused by the quite common problem of water in the trunk and that has caused the security system control module, which is located in the trunk well on the passenger side, to cease functioning properly.

Do you hear any hissing noise when the fob is actuated? This could be at the door or at the top of the hatch.

Which last problem? My last thread on this site?

There is no hissing noise. The key does turn but does not unlock the car. There is simply no response from the key fob whatsoever. No lights are activated when the key fob is used, either.

Thanks for your quick response.

The manual says this could be an accessory drive belt failure.

Anyone else have a different take? It drove fine this morning on the way to work...6 hours later I started it up and the steering was done.

And does anyone have an idea of how much one of these belts costs to replace?
The key problem must be the lock module not working or the lock is not connecting to it physically somehow.
No lights or hissing with the fob buttons depressed means I would give my vote to the security module failure due to water.

Thanks again. I got that first problem with the power steering done pretty easily. It was the belt that was off to due an oil leak.

Thanks for all your help, I'll let you know what happens.
