More Volume
I am finally starting to want to improve the sound system in my SRT-6. I have been riding in my friend's G37 with the Bose studio system too much and it is making me envy. My biggest obstacle is that I would like to keep the original non-nav head unit for aesthetic purposes--there's no getting around this. I got a good deal on a pair of Infinity Kappa 62.9I door speaker replacements, which I hope will deliver some improvement, but I would just generally like to have MORE VOLUME from the system--sounds rather weak in comparison with some other vehicles. What are some other options I should consider?
Generally a new headunit and amplifier would do the trick easily. Of course, higher output rated speakers are needed too along with that. Thing is, I personally don't want to replace the original headunit either hahaha.
Anyway, Kenwood and Alpine usually have been very, and I MEAN very nice sound quality wise. At least in my experience.

There's no easy simple plugin solution that I know of yet. It would be nice if we could get a bit fuller sound out of the stock unit, but the quality on it actually isnt THAT bad hahah.
I started today by replacing the door speakers with a pair of Infinity Kappa 62.9I 2-way speakers. This is certainly a good start. The sound is much more crisp and natural. I definitely recommend.
I'm definitely following this one...see the need for more tunes! My iPhone isn't cranking out the sound that the CD or radio does...might be a different issue...
did we get anywhere with this? im on the fence about buying the kappas , do they provide a bit more volume? also did we ever find a subwoofer solution ? can the same kappas go in the subwoofer spot?
You can get signal converters, that's how I had subs hooked up to my stock unit. You'll need two of them to cover all 4 channels coming out of the head unit then you can hook up standard amps using RCA.
Not sure I'm catching this...which signal converter?
More info on your componets and hook up please!
Still looking for a simple solution to get more volume. Sounds like your's is simple.
I'm on vacation right now but I will draw up a schematic this week and post it so you get the idea.
So I haven't been able to draw anything up but I had one of those signal converters spliced into the rear speaker signal wires coming out of the back of the head unit and then ran RCAs from the converter to my amp to power my 2 12" subs. You can find wiring diagrams on here so that you know how to wire the converters. With this wiring you will still have use of the stock amp plus the use of any other amps you install and can all be utilized by the stock head unit.
One thing I found is that for some reason my wiring harness didn't have a negative for each speaker channel. So instead I ran the negative for each channel on the converter to the head unit ground. I wish I took pictures when I did this before I switched to my new head unit. It would be so much easier to explain.

I spliced my signal splitter - rca converter in at the amps input. Converter fit nicely along side it and used the diagrams here for pos and neg on each channel.
Still doesn't compare to a head unit with 4 channels and L-R subwoofer jacks. Still feeding front-rear through the amp (added wires for rear channel) and the subwoofer broke out free on it's own can really kick now..

let me think out loud here for a second , to get more volume could we theoretically get some signal coverters run them to a seprate amp and run those the the door speakers to get more volume? and same for the woofers?
Sounds like the long way around to get nowhere? You'll basically be bypassing the OEM amp with this so what have you gained other than more wireing? Just as well replace the stock amp with a higher powered one. If your adding more speakers, this is the easy way for that..
