Here is one that has similar specs to mine... Kenwood KMR-350U In-Dash CD, MP3 Marine Receiver w/ Pandora
No misunderstanding here.. there is a thread that a couple of users have replaced..not just bypassed the stock amp..and at least one is running two amps in the stock location. I'd say not enough room for stock amp and two more.. so "replaced"..
I meant missunderstanding in the fact that what I was trying to convey an opinion... I could see something working, I just dont feel its necessary. Componets would be the way to go, but even those for the doors and rears arent really needed. Good componet tweeters, good 10" subs, you would have all the high mid and low you need. That can all be wired to the stock setup... Would it sound good? probably good enough, but with an aftermarket HU it would all pull together beautifully.
Now that we can totally agree on.. Like I've said before, Just a new HU and broke out F-R channels at the amp, and running an amplified subwoofer off the HU's RCA sub out has made a world of difference.. even my teens say "Dad's jamming out".. LOL
It all comes down to how much you have to have out of it.. how much you want to spend.. $120 Clarion factory refurb HU and a $150 300watt 10" subwoofer amplified cannon got me to totally acceptable. (bass cannon was free..just run with old folks that buy a used car..they hate that stuff! LOL)

The pricing on what you have is spot on for all you need. Since this car is so little its easier to pull a good sounding system out of it. My deck was $149 at the audio stealershop, 2 10's in a ported box were $169 at sonicelectronix, and my componet tweeters were $100 on amazon. Now I just need a good 1000 watt amp that didnt hit production the same time I did.
so i just installed infinity 62.9i kappa speakers and they didnt sound better plus the plastic bracket didnt mount properly , they are supposed to be a pnp for our stereos but they sounded quieter and less bassey , any ideas?
Did you end up getting a base coupe or a limited? I ask because I'm sure not having an amp (base) would make the difference on how they sound..
Another thread on these the member stated having to remove some bumps from the surface? Search for the install thread..

ohm rating should be fine as they are the speakers that have been constantly recommended on here, maybe i got the polarity backwards , but i highly doubt that , as far as wattage i dont see how that would be too much of an issue but i am sure i could be wrong! they are kappa perfecdts 62.9i are these not good for my stock stereo?
these are true 4 ohm , but i think they are supposed to do 2 ohm as well for our cars?

Usually if a speaker is rated 150W RMS at 8 ohm then at 4 its more and at 2 its even more, most cant support 1 ohm. Thats a basic summary of what the resistance means. Im not an electrical tech or engineer but thats all the info that matters to me. Hope this helps.
I installed the Kappa 62.9is probably six months ago. Inside the plastic speaker bracket, there are a couple of "bumps" (for lack of a better word) that I had to file off in order for the speaker to set flush. Other than that, they are basically plug 'n play. I have an SRT-6, which means it has the Infinity system. I do have capacitors installed onto the speakers--can't remember which ones. I removed them for a moment when I installed the new speakers, but ended up putting the back because I preferred the sound.
You are going to get less bass out of the front speakers with this set-up, but I was looking for crisp highs and substantial mids, which is what I got. The stock subs put out plenty of bump, for now.
My purpose in creating this thread was to explore options in keeping the factory headunit for aesthetic purposes. I am well aware this isn't ideal, but I can't stand the aftermarket look. From replacing the front speakers, I am not opposed to replacing the subwoofers as well, and upgrading the amp. This was the idea behind creating this thread--better sound with the stock headunit.

a friend of mine has a shop here in town and he is offering to swap the amp for a much bigger one (power wise) for like 2 0r 300 bucks out the door, is this even possible to just replace the stock amp but use the same head unit? (stock)
